eVGA step-up program: I guess they read Anand said not to buy a high-end graphics card now ;)

eVGA.com Step-up? T&C It's an interesting idea, if you buy a eVGA card before the new gen hits you can trade it up for whatever new eVGA card based on the new nV design you are after that's available within 90 days of purchase. They give you the full amount for the card so you just lose the shipping costs. Obviously this is not for everyone since some won't use nV while others are after a particular manufacturer's card, but this does help give someone who would like a eVGA card in the near future get it, use it, and upgrade it to a higher end model or the new gen while getting almost all their investment back, presuming of course the next gen nV cards hit within 90 days of purchase.

On paper it's a nice deal, but sounds to me like more hassle than it's worth, plus you will be out of a video card for at least a week while your old one goes back and you're waiting for your new one. I am also curious if they know something... nVIDIA and evga go back a long way, maybe the next gen cards are coming out later than in 90 days from now.

Sounds like they just want to keep being able to make sales during this period where many consumers may hold off a purchase because they want the new stuff.

Damn I have an evga card. I wonder if I begged them if they would let me trade up with my 5900 I purchased in August.

I will gladly spend about 220 bucks for an NV40. Especially is the rumors about a 16X1 design are true :)

they will find some way to screw you, inflating the prices of the next generation and forcing you to buy from them, so what if your $300 gets full credit against a $800 card

they can, for example sell normal cards at normal price.

But when you exchange the card, the card you buy will be $300 moe expensive.

Look at the price on their site now: $500 for a 5950?!

Big deal. An EVGA 5950 cost $409 shipped at newegg. When you throw in the hassle of being out of a video card while yours ships to them and theirs ships to you, this deal seems whacked to me. I notice it says you only have 90 days from purchase to trade up too, what if the nV40s take more than 90 days to arrive?
