So I got a couple 7800GT's last month for my new system. While they are great and can run games at 1900x1200 easily with most settings on high, I still need more. With resolutions that high and only 7800GT's you have to make some sacrifices. For example, I couldn't run FEAR at the 1900x1200 with AA and AF cranked all the way up so I had to lower the res (the grapics in FEAR are great but the "jaggies" are terrible without AA). In order to run DOOM 3 or Quake at 1900x1200 I have to turn AA off and this bugs me. I want to crank it all to the max.
Since its only been a month or two since I got my cards I signed up for the eVGA step-up program and am gonna get a couple 7900GTX's. I figure that will let me finally crank it up all the way.
So here's the deal, I paid 319 for these cards from Newegg. From what I see the new 7900GTX's are going for about 600. This means that to step-up to dual 7900 GTX's I will have to pay about 540 for the difference right?
Another question I have is that when I signed up for the step-up, it asked me what I originally paid for my card. I was honest and put in 319. But what If I would have put 400 or 500? How would they know? Won't they ask for an invoice? The 7900GTX"s are on backorder right now so I didn't get to actually order anything yet.
Anyone ever gone through the step-up process before? How does it work? I think I lost 1 or 2 of the DVI-VGA adapters that came with my cards. Does this mean that they won't step me up if I don't have absolutely everything that came with the original card? Or do I just send back the card itself and they send me an OEM card as the step-up? Im a bit confused. I just have read the TOS better but alas I didn't.
Honestly though, do you people think its even worth dropping another 500 or 600 bucks on video cards right now or should I just stick with what I have? I mean, I already finished FEAR and DOOM 3 and Quake 4, so the overall thrill is gone anyway. A little higher res in FEAR and a little AA in DOOM or Quake isn't gonna make me cream my jeans or anything. What's on the horizon for video cards in say 6 to 12 months? My original plan was to just get new video cards this Christmas. Then the Christmas after that I was gonna build an entirely new system.
Plus, I just bought a 60GB Video iPod last week and the old lady is still bitchin about that as it is. All I need is to hear a bunch of lip about 600 on more video cards.
Thanks for any info.
