I happened to look at this review its quite interesting what a $200 cheaper video card can do... http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=32016

3DMark05 Scores

Nvidia 7900GT 450/1320mhz=7809
Nvidia 7900GTX 650/1600mhz=10660

Evga 7900GT Signature 600/1600mhz=9920
Evga 7900GT Signature 665/1850mhz=10891

3DMark06 Scores

Nvidia 7900GT 450/1320mhz=4062
Nvidia 7900GTX 650/1600mhz=5273

Evga 7900GT Signature 600/1600mhz=4994
Evga 7900GT Signature 665/1850=5403

Results

Doom 3 shows EVGA 7900 GT at 665 MHz core and 1850 MHz clock can reach the speed of Geforce 7900 GTX. It stays a frame or two slower but it can match it at 20x15. Overclocked signature card is twenty frames faster in 20x15 from the non overclock default Nvidia 7900 GT. Even when you turn the FSAA and Aniso on you can clearly see that EVGA 7900 GT signature edition outperforms 7900 GTX. It is not much but it can get up to three frames faster.

Far Cry with 4X FSAA and 8X aniso shows that the overclocked signature card can stay up to two frames faster than the default clocked 7900 GTX. At 2048x1536 overclocked signature card is 57 percent faster than 7900 GT default.

In Quake 4 overclocked signature card stays on a top but just for a frame or two. The 600 / 1800 MHz EVGA signature card is as always just slightly slower up to five frames in this case.

As this card deserves at least 4X FSAA and 8X Anisotropic filtering you can see that it really fits it in Quake 4. It is up to six frames faster than 7900 GTX at default clock. The overclocked Signature card is almost 50 percent faster than the default 7900 GT.

FEAR really likes the overclocked card and runs up to 23 frames faster than the default 7900 GT card. Once you turn FSAA 4X and 16X Aniso you can get up to 25 frames or 25 percent faster performance. It always outperforms 7900 GTX card.

Battlefield 2 was a mystery to us as it actually was running slower than the default clocked 7900 GT card. Once you turn the FSAA and Aniso on the 7900GT Signature EVGA card overclocked to 665/1850MHz is again the king of the hill. It runs up to 20 frames faster than the default card.

Serious Sam 2 can run up to 34 frames or twenty seven per cent faster. The difference can get even more drastic when you turn the FSAA and Aniso on. It runs up to 33 per cent faster and can score playable 60 frames per second even at 2048x1536 resolution. It is almost always faster than 7900 GTX.

In 3Dmark03 the signature card is almost 4000 marks faster than the default 7900 GT, while the overclocked card is almost 6000 marks faster, it is even 800 marks faster than the 7900 GTX. It runs 2100 marks faster than the default 7900 GT while the overclocked card runs 3100 marks faster. The overclocked card is some 800 points faster than 7900 GTX.

Overclocked card owns 3Dmark05 score. It is 200 points faster than much more expensive 7900 GTX card, and 3000 marks faster than the default clocked 7900 GT card.

In 3Dmark06 signature card runs 930 marks faster, some 22 percent faster than the default clocked 7900 GT. The overclocked signature card is 200 marks faster than 7900 GTX and 1350 marks or 25 percent faster than 7900 GT default.

Overclocked card wins all testes including Shader model 2.0 and set of 3.0 and HDR tests.

When will people learn???? Just like saying OMG MY X2 3800+ at 2.7ghz owns FX60!!11 Hmm overclocked FX60 still owns the 3800. Basically Start Overclocking the GTX and its no contest.

Two things:

1) $$$
2) The higher clocked parts have less headroom.

Considering both parts are identical save for a different core voltage and higher rated RAM, a 7900GT @ 650/1700 should be pretty much identical in performance to a 7900GTX @ 650/1700 save for certain situations in which the extra 256MB of framebuffer actually makes a difference (ultra-higher resolutions for instance)

the e-vga signature series are cheaper than the 7900 gtx,but its only available in limited quantities.
SO get it while u can.

eVGA RMAs are rampant right now and one guy in another forum has had six faulty boards.

So yeah, if you want to enjoy the board for a grand total of two days before it craps out then go ahead and buy one.

From Doom?

Apparently, its the memory problems that are really affecting the NV cards. I guess the next batch of cards will have the problems fixed.

This is nothing new, many on here have been volt modding our GTs to 1.4V or higher and getting the same performance. You can save $50+ and do the volt mod yourself over buying the "signature edition".

I would any day prefer 7900GTX or 1900XT

An overclocked card doesn't have any warranty, and there are other things as well

Are there any links on just which brands are crapping out, and at what rates/frequency? There doesn't seem to be any real consistency from reports of the various forums/user reviews. I know XFX and evga both have great warranties, but evga's customer service is reported (by some) to be the best/speediest of the group concerning RMAs....but I'd rather minimize my chances of having to deal with RMAing anything in the first place.

If you're worried you might have to RMA your card, then the signature series makes even more sense. They send you advance RMA's for SS cards, plus you move to the top of the que if you decide to upgrade within the 90 day limit.

You also get a free 2006 game with purchase. At it's stock speed its near;y equivalent to the GTX for $100 less (and you get the game). This is a very good deal IMO.

I sold my vanilla eVGA 7900GT that I got from step-up to a friend, unused and unopened. With a 1.5v core and 2.23v memory volt mod, his card runs stable at 715/1900.

Amazing card. I cant believe I didnt keep it.

is the arctic accelero x1 compatable with the 7900 series cards.Like u could just buy a regular(non OCed) 7900 gt from e-vga or xfx or someone, install this cooler, and overclock/overvolt like there's no tomorrow.
I think u'd get similar results to a signature series card, provided the cooler fits.

the card I was talking about in my above post was using nothing but a VF700 with the RAMsinks that come with the VF700.

Personally I dont like the Accelero series. I had one on my XTX and the temps got into the high 80's. Why didnt AC stick with the DHES? Blowing the hot GPU + RAM air direftly down on to the mobo right next to the NB is the dumbest thing I have ever experienced. I slapped the stock leafblower, I mean HSF, back on and I dont load any higher than 74*C @ 690/800.
