EVGA Precision bug?

I just installed my second, identical, Gigabyte "WindForce" dual-fan OC 715Mhz card, into my ASrock 990FX Extreme4 board, and installed the 2SLI bridge.

After booting into Windows, I was not automagically prompted to enabled SLI. I had to go into NV control panel, and enable it.

I was prompted to shut down my BOINC tasks that were using the GPUs (I have BOINC set to auto-start when Windows starts). So I did, then I clicked Continue, and it enabled SLI.

When I restarted BOINC, I noticed a bit of GUI lag that hadn't been there with a single GPU.

I also noticed, EVGA Precision 2.0.4 (that I use for fan and temp monitoring) was showing GPU2's fan speed as 900RPM, and the top card (#1) as 2400RPM. Sure, the top card was running a little hotter, but not that much of a difference.

So I un-installed that older version, and installed 2.1.2. Same issue with the RPMs. It was showing the top fan was running at 75%, so I manually set the bottom fan to 75%, and it reported 1400RPM, roughly half of that of the top card.

I took a piece of plastic, and I tested that both fans were working on both cards.

So this is a mystery to me.

When the cards were in seperate computers, there was no disparity between fan RPMs that I ever noticed.

Is this an artifact of SLI mode? Something wrong with Precision? Or something with my cards?

Have you tried another RivaTuner based program, like Afterburner, to see if it tells you the same thing?

Reverse the cards, see if the problem corrects, stays the same or follows the top card to the lower slot.

If it corrects you're done. :)

If it stays the same it's likely the software.

If it follows the top card it's likely the card.
