Evga P55 FTW or Asus Maximum III Formula , which for me?

Building a system for the house for moderate gaming, web surfing, word processing, just sort of a catch-all system. Going to have an ati 5850, 4gb of ddr3, onboard sound, dvd burner, internal card reader, 750w psu. Housing it in an antec p183 case.

I'm waffling between the Asus maximus iii formula or the evga p55 ftw. The asus is about 50 more than the evga, seems to have more bells and whistles but you don't hear too much about it over all. The EVGA seems to draw a lot of heavy overclockers and I'm not extreme by any means. I don't plan to SLI.

I want to set it and forget it, I do like the 1 year advance replacement on the ROG Asus board. I'm dropping an i7-870 into whichever one I get.

If you're not planning SLi or crazy overclocks, you don't need either one. Get a less expensive mobo and put the savings toward a 5870.

well in the meantime I just picked up an evga p55 ftw sealed with bing cashback for 138 shipped. I think I'll hang with that one. Quick decision before I even came back to this thread but I am thinking 138 is awesome.

I have the EVGA board and it has some nice overclocking features, but has some qwirks. The documentation is the worst I have ever seen. I can not get my USB front panel working off the headers and their is no pin diagram anywhere in the documentation. It is a OK overclocker, nothing spectacular. If overclocking is not a concern, there are cheaper boards that will work just fine for you.

In any case, that's a hell of a lot smarter than the overpriced Maximus III.

Seems like not a bad deal.
