eVGA makes copper heatsink replacement

Well you have to be a member of eVGA (just register). On their member pages they are selling copper heatsink replacements for the 6800 GT and Ultra core. This covers just the core, no the memory - that stays aluminum. Price is 9.99 plus a rotten 8 something for shipping. The good thing about it is that eVGA will still honor the lifetime warranty with the copper heatsink in place.

I suppose if you have a reference style 6800 GT and ultra it would work for any brand. A moderator posted his temp drops on a 6800GT overclocked. Idle was roughly 3-4 degrees°C and load was 12-14°C lower.

Im going to give it a try just to see how it works. Then when my waterblock arrives from SNT im going to watercool the entire rig. Lol

Login. Go to products, hardware accessories. GT listed for 9.99, Ultra listed for 14.99. Didnt see that before, but I was only paying attention to the GT price since thats what I have.
