Saw this mentioned over at DT - this is an interesting program, and something I've seen being done at head-fi.org to let people try out high end cans.

Cliffs:
- They send out the product to the first person on the sign up list
- Person tries it out for a couple of weeks
- Person pays to ship the product to the next person on the list

- Program 1 consists of the 3D glasses and the Sammy monitor
- Program 2 consists of an EVGA X58 board (just the board, no i7, DDR3, or video cards included, it sounds like)

Oh, I'm sure the hardware will make about two stops before being ruined and a war about who did it will follow. Then, the program will close.

It'll be pretty much luck based depending on who gets it. Another forum I used to go to had a thermal paste program where they would ship a tube of thermal paste around to people who needed it. It worked well from what I read.

I opted for the 3d glass and the monitor; have been wanting to test these out and this looks like a great opoportunity.

Not exactly sure what the point is on the MB program though...there aren't THAT many people with an i7 setup, and of those, how many want to dissemble their setup just to try another MB? This one seemed odd to me.

I'm hesitant about trying this out. I really don't want to get involved in a dispute over who broke something and possibly be obligated to pay $600 for something that I didn't damage.

Sounds really cool. I'm definitely signing up.
BTW, there won't be any disputes over who broke what if something breaks. You have 24 hours upon receipt of product to notify eVGA of any physical damage due to shipping, and the condition of the product removed from packaging.

So within 24 hours you'll know if you, UPS, or the guy before you broke it.

I would like to try it, but I cant see paying shipping to get a monitor, and the glasses to the next person. That will probably cost 30 dollars or more. Thats too much for something to play with for two weeks to me.

- at home and with my games

NP as to disputes

i set up my digi-cam and video me both opening and packing it up

LCDs are not that much to ship
- they said they pick you by region

and i will insure the package - same box; so it is just shipping costs

Yeah, I can't really see that one being too popular either. I'm not sure what you would get out of demoing a mobo that you couldn't get by reading a decent and thorough review with benchmarks.

With the 3D glasses, there's obviously a legitimate reason for letting people try it out themselves versus reading a reviewer's impressions. That OCZ NIA thing would be another example of a product that users might want to try themselves before committing.

I also think EVGA could have done one better here though, by offering people who participate in the program a refund on shipping costs if they show proof that they ended up buying the product after trying it.

Suggest it; you should be in marketing :)

the MB should come in a "review kit"
- who wants to swap everything out ? and return it in 2 weeks ?
- the 3-D glasses seems a lot more reasonable

i wonder if anyone with ATi videocards applied for it
:D

:p

But not everyone is honest, what if guy A ships it to guy B who rushes to set it up and shorts out the MB. Prompting him to call EVGA and say "awh damn I guess guy A broke it cos I couldn't get it to work" would be hard to prove either way, and I don't see EVGA saying "well that's okay, send it back and we won't charge anyone, mistakes happen" Or even worse Guy B calls EVGA and says "awh damn guy A sent me an empty box!" in an attempt to keep the sh!t. Again EVGA wouldn't be like "hummm... since we can't prove what happened, everyone is off the hook here"

the honor system would have to be very strong here, I just don't see it working well. It sounds good in theory, but there are a lot of lying a-holes in the world :)

FAQ

* Q. How do I know what region I am in, or where I will be shipping?
o A. Region 1: CA, NV, UT, AZ. Region 2: WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD. Region 3: CO, NM, NE, KS, OK, TX. Region 4: MN, IA, MO, WI, IL. Region 5: AR, LA, TN, MS, AL, NC, SC, GA, FL. Region 6: MI, IN, KY, OH, WV, VA, MD, DE. Region 7: NY, PA, NJ, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, ME. Region 8: Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, NW Territories. Region 9: Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut. Region 10: Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island.
* Q. Is there discounted shipping?
o A. There is not any discounted shipping, but you can use UPS ground - there is no need to pay for rush shipping.
* Q. Can I use FedEx, USPS or other carriers?
o A. No. In order to maintain a standard and to keep track of signatures and shipping, we decided UPS was a mandatory carrier for the ELP program. You must also make sure a signature is required for your package or you will be held responsible.
* Q. Do I have to purchase insurance for my shipment?
o A. You are responsible for the shipment until it is signed for by the next participant. It is up to you if you want to cover your liability, as with any insurance.
* Q. What happens when I receive a damaged product?
o A. You must check in the product within 24 hours of receipt (verified by your signature on the UPS shipment). If you do not, you will be held responsible for the damage. In the event of any disputes, we will take these on a case by case basis.
* Q. Are APO's or other military addresses eligible?
o A. At this time this is not possible.
* Q. What happens if there isn't anyone else left, does it cycle through the same people again?
o A. If there is no one left to choose in the region before a program is ended, the item will return to EVGA. We do not foresee this happening due to the high demand of participants.
* Q. Do you require my credit card number to participate?
o A. No, but you will be responsible for EVGA property while you have it in your possession and you will be billed and obligated to pay for the product should it be kept longer than the 14 day review, or if product is damaged while in your possession.

UPS ground .. insured .. SoCal to Phoeniz for me is about $20 [30 lbs/26x18x12]

- that is fine for 2 weeks

and i will use my DIGI-CAM to *video* opening and sealing the package
