EVGA GTX 980 Hydro Copper Waterblock arrived

My EVGA GTX 980 Hydro Copper block finally arrived and I haven't seen anyone else post pictures of it so I figured I would.

Its pretty nice looking. I wanted a full cover block even though the rest is just an acrylic piece but I also wanted the lighted EVGA logo and light up block.

Pics are of the un boxing. Ill have it on the card tonight with some info on how it cools my 980 SC ACX2.0.

well it is installed and running in the system unfortunately the LEDS don't light up. Ive had the block off the card 2 times to re seat the led connector but no luck. From what I read from http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphi...GTX-980-Water-Block-Early-Performance-Testing they didn't have working LEDs on their test unit. Not sure what gives but ill give EVGA a call tomorrow.

Performance wise, according to precision x16 my card is idling at 24-25 degrees celsius which is down from my ACX 2.0 at 44 degrees. Ill check it here in game shortly and see what the it ramps up to.

Cooling wise for the GPU only loop I have a Alpha cool D5 with high flow top, into an alpha cool ut60 480 rad in push pull format.

just played 3 different games, Quake live, Team Fortress 2, and AC:Black Flag and I never saw the temp get above 28 degrees. pretty impressive so far. Ill have to get pushing it quite a bit more in a more GPU heavy game. Monitor is a ROG swift running 2560x1440 144Hz

Very nice. I believe that is a Swiftech made block. I have a Hydro Copper block from EVGA on my GTX 780 Classified and it does a good job. Very heavy!
 
That looks really sweet. Would you mind sharing some of your overclocking numbers/temps with that setup?

I will eventually be moving towards a watercooling setup as well, probably as soon as 20nm GPUs are released. I find the watercooling setups really elegant, stylish, and should hopefully do wonders for the noise my PC emits as well, which largely comes from the blowers on my videocards ramping up.

Once I get around to overclocking the card I will but I doubt Ill be able to see anymore than what has already been posted due to the voltage limitation on this.

Im with you as far as noise and temps. Since I went water cooled a long time ago ive never had another air cooled PC all have been water.

This block is made by EK, and im glad they switched. Ive never really been a fan of the swifttech blocks. I will say, compaired to the rest of the heat killer blocks and the block on my 690, this is a rather light block but that would seem right as its not a "full" coverage block. it covers the areas it needs and that's about it. It doesn't extend fully to the edge of the block.

EVGA was kind enough to call me direct after seeing I placed an order for the card informing me that it is possible the LEDs will not light up and if this is correct, just swap the LED connectors wires. Which in my case I had to do. Kinda sucks to have to do it and EVGA offered to RMA the block for me to get me a new one but honestly if you cant de pin a connector I dunno if you should do a custom water cooling loop IMO..

it is a very nice flashy block... the LED option is a nice touch to add bling.

however to be honest, im willing to wager koolances being superior.
You can tell by how complex the underside plate is compared to eK with better coverage:

also keep a very close eye on that nickle plate.
I do not trust eK with nickle blocks.

But again, its a very flashy block, and the peformance on it seems great.

I know your thoughts, I had another EK block that was nickel plated that I saw some flaking after a while.


I do know what you mean with the block though. I compared the block to the ACX 2.0 cooler that was on it and saw the water block doesn't quite hit everything the ACX cooler did but it covers the important chips on the card.

for those wondering. playing AC Unity at 1440P, 144hz everything maxed out temps are around 32-34 Celsius
