Isn't the 400's series the super loud and power hungry series?

notice i said "for those that can take the heat and noise" Power wise, not much different than the 580's I dont think.

Some people (such as myself) only care about absolute performance.

Shocked most people skip right over this sorta deal and jump on like a gtx570 or 6970 @$300+.

Sure it has noise and heat but with a little oc,it will have gtx580 performance at half the cost of a 7950 even and from reading some of the signatures of forum members, noise nor heat for most is a issue, just a natural hate for the 400 series.

Tigerdirect says available in store only. you have a link that shows otherwise?

No, but I know its $250 at newegg as well, so this so called deal isnt special or only at amazon. Also we have a forum dedicated to deals.

+1  Exactly right; not to mention the 480 has more VRam than the 570 and a more robust PCB that can be pushed further

Didnt say it was special or the greatest thing ever. Just wanted to let others know about a good deal. It just became available a little bit ago at Newegg as it was sold out this morning there.

What's with all the negativity?

just wait another week and get a 7850 for $250 and overclock the hell out of it

That's what I would do. Even if it doesn't quite match an overclocked 480 in performance, I'd gladly lose out on a little bit of performance for the better power and thermals.

You drive a '79 monte carlo, what's that get like 12 miles per gallon? You're supposed to want the card with the biggest ballz!

Why wouldn't they? What's the point of playing games if you can't even hear them?

A lot of people (myself included) only play with headphones on so noise really isn't a factor. Playing competitive FPS games online you get a big advantage wearing headphones in order to get positional sound. Noise wasn't really a factor at all when I built my rig. Different people care about different things.

Looks like Tigerdirect has them for $220 shipped again.

I just installed a soudblaster xfi titanium a couple days ago,its pretty bad ass over the lousy arzalia realtek chip that kept popping in games.

Got these $30 sony headphones that are built for better bass and with the card it sounds so good i was hearing like bugs and insects in BF3,which i never heard before and my room has a rumble to it from my subwoofer on my $40 40w 2.1 creative when i'm in the chopper in BC2 and BF3 which is insane.

Soon enough, the 40w 2.1 set will be replaced with a pair of logitech thx certified z623 200w speakers as a final touch to the build.

I bet he is getting at least 15mpg especially if it is a built up 454,which i'm not certain was available in the 79 year....then again any small block v8 would get the same or better.

My last project was a 2 door 1965 chrysler newport and being about 25 feet long and housing a big block 383 with the 727 auto, that got 15mpg on the highway after i installed a 4 600cfm edelbrock performer intake manifold and carb so i would think the monte carlo should get a more respectable mpg then my old tank did LOL especially if its a stock motor with all the emissions crap all on it still.

Until you get a quieter rig, and then you realize all that you were missing. Ambient sounds make a ton of difference in an FPS, e.g. hearing footsteps that much further away is a life saver. If you're going to play the competitive FPS gaming card, I would think you would know that. But different strokes for different folks.
