this particular model has the GDDR3 memory, not the newer version of this card's GDDR5 that everyone raves about. Killed it for me.

Note that this card has 1gig memory also and with free shipping as compared to the 512meg card at Frys which shipping is approx $7.50 (for me) so I get an extra 512meg memory for $2.50 more... Also NO mail in rebate to screw with (hate that crap)...

Very good deal though on the DDR5 card but I dont know much of anything about the Galaxy brand...?

Also saw your same 512meg card (Galaxy) over at TD for $34.99 AR (plus shipping)

I think that the 512MB DDR5 card would beat the 1GB DDR3 card pretty soundly. Correct me guys if I am wrong.

Not the best comparison but this does show a Zotac GT240 DDR3 1GB with 8847 marks as opposed to a 512 MB DDR5 XFX with 10635 marks.

Looked at a couple games comparisons and it looked like the 512MB DDR5 was about 25-30% faster than the 1GB DDR3 model as far as FPS.

Isn't the Fry's one a different brand? I like EVGA's warranty.

Now the 240 GT is a Galaxy.

Sorry, I was referring to my first post where I mentioned that Fry's did have a EVGA DDR5 model for 40 AR a couple weeks back. It's the same as your Microcenter model.

These cards are already limited to a 128-bit bus, so every little bit of memory speed helps. The GDDR5 versions have almost twice as fast of memory as the GDDR3. Settings that would fill up a 512mb buffer are going to end up choking on the slower memory speeds of the 1gb versions, so the extra memory isn't worth it.

Not to mention any game that doesn't fill up a 512mb buffer will be slower, which at the settings these cards can handle, is every game anyway.

Placed online order with Micro Center yesterday (Aug 12) and received confirmation; 20 minutes later I received an email stating the the item was on back-order.
