* bump *

They added GTX's to the list. Wanting to clear GTX inventories as well? EVGA bundles and rebadging (7900GTO) have proven to be decent indicators of end of life product, and where upcoming product will be positioned.

People are asking what the new GTS will deliver over the GT. I'll go on a limb, G80 is going away...

Yea I saw that GT deal on Newegg. It appears the deal thru EVGA is for GTS/GTX only. But Newegg is rolling it into that GT sku. They're Newegg... probably cut a deal with EVGA since they're the only one doing it with a GT.

I bit on this deal after getting shut out of multiple attempts to purchase an in stock GT.

The 8800 GTS 640 SSC is the only one with the unlocked shaders (112 sp) vs 96 on everything else. Hardwarecanucks site had a really good review of this card which was quietly released early Nov. Also, no one -- including EVGA site has updated the details to indicate it has 112 sp (says 96+), most likely to not steal the 8800GT's thunder. The only clue is the "72GB/sec memory bandwidth" (vs 64GB/sec IIRC for a regular 8800GTS). It appears to outperform the GT at very high resolutions and with max AA/AF enabled.

So...I paid $350 AR with free ship and free copy of Crysis @ Newegg. Net net, I figure I paid about 15% more than a BFG GT being sold via Best Buy with no game included, for about 10% more performance. Not the best trade I know, but at least I've got a card and it's an EVGA so I can use the proceeds to step up to the new G92 GTS next month if I want. Here is the review btw:

And here is the Newegg link: $340 AR with Quake Wars or $350 AR with Crysis

If the out-of-stock price listings at newegg are correct, the GT with Crysis costs $10 more than the same card with Quake Wars.

Edit: NM, already mentioned above for GTS 640. but does apply to GT SC as well.

I purchased, the 8800 GTS 640 SSC part # 640-P2-N829-A1, I haven't opened it. Dell screwed-up my order, way back when they had the MSI for $220 tax included. I got the GTS SSC for $298.00 w/ the $40 rebate, making it $260. Now, my question is should I keep it? I can return it and get when the prices go down the GT 512mb and/or Sapphire Radeon 3780 Atomic model around $240- $260 respectively. I still have it an unopened. Any suggestions would be appreciate it. I am no hurry to play the latest. I have played Crysis with my Ati xt1950x 256 at medium... I know it's now eye candy but I played, it sailed in Rainbow six. Thanks for any suggestions and recomendations.
