EVGA ACS3 Cooler and Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Chipset Fan

I have a KO edition card and the heatsink on it is a beast. It cools the card well, but unfortunatly, it also goes right over the A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo's chipset fan. This is all fine, but the chipset fan is the loudest fan in my computer and I wanted to replace it with the passive cooled Zalman chipset fan. Unfortunatly, the Zalman would probably hit the video card's ACS3 cooler.

Any suggestions on replacing the chipset fan? I have one of the newer diagonal chipset fans if it makes any difference.

The other option is getting the Zalman VF900 for the video card and the Zalman chipset cooler for the chipset.

That would require taking about a square inch of the surface of the KO's heatsink out. Given it has a lifetime warranty, I'd rather not physically damage the heatsink. I could order another ACS3, keep the serial number stick on mine and Dremel that, but at that point, I might as well get a CF700.

If there's a quiet low profile passive or active heatsink for the nForce 4 chipset, that would be great - but I haven't found one.

EDIT: Ooo you meant of the chipset Zalman :p - that might be worth a try, but not sure how it'll affect cooling.

I got it for cheap from Chiefvalue (it was less than the standard eVGA when I got it).

to fix the noisy ass NB chipset fan. it's a POS on the A8N deluxe, and annoying as hell.

NB = Northbridge. Comes with a stock fan on it which is garbage, if you don't know what I'm talking about look here >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage...ge=13-131-517-01.jpg,13-131-517-02.jpg It's to the left of the DIMM's. The Zalman NB47 is a replacement for it, except it's passive (no fan... which means no noise) The NB47 is quite tall, so it might interfere with some cards. But the Zalman VF700, which is a VGA cooler is very good and it makes enough room for the NB47 to fit without interfering anything. You can see my pics in my old post here >> http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=37&threadid=1698639&enterthread=y It's clearly shown in pic2 the most. hope this helps

That definitely did help, i just wanted to ask a couple of things... you were suggesting to get a KO to fix the "noisy ass NB fan" ... how would buying a specific version of the gtx do anything for the existing NB fan? Also... would i have this problem on a DFI ultra D?

The KO has nothing to do with the NB fan.... The NB fan is seperate of the mobo. The GTX might fit, i'm not sure. But like I said, if you replace it with a VF700 on the card, you're good to go if you want the NB47. If you want to keep the stock NB fan on, you won't have to mess with anything. So in other words... Stock KO cooler + stock NB fan = fine. Stock KO cooler + NB47 = problem. VF700 + NB47 = fine. VF700 + stock NB fan = fine. As for the DFI, I've never had a DFI board so I have no idea.
