EVGA 8800GTS 640MB

My video card is running 61c at idle and my CPU must be running hot because I start to run a CPU stability test and it stops real fast and displays CPU to hot. Stock H/F on CPU and VC.

Thanks, JASTECH

Nope. I have a Zotac 8800GTS 320mb and when my fan was on auto it would hover around 70C in a decent mATX case. Dropped to 65C on idle in my P180. These cards are 90NM and have a HUGE die. These run hot.

Did you just get this card? If so, how did you acquire it and for how much?

I purchased it at Newegg and paid close to 300.00 I think. I just never had checked temps (My bad). So now I have Everest Ultimate, SpeedFan, Prime95 64bit and CPU-Z. I will give this system to my wife as hers is a Supermicro I built.

Thanks, JASTECH

Those idle temps are fine for that card. My old 8800GTS 320MB would idle at 64C and load up at 87c under furmark. For your cpu temps, use coretemp and run something like prime95/orthos or linpack and check the temps under coretemp. Hopefully they are 80c and under, otherwise check if your heatsink is mounted properly.

Just dropping by; what about the G92 chip in an 8800GT? It's a 65nm I believe, and mine at a mild OC (620->700, 900->1000) it idles at around 52C and under full load can hit 80C.

TC91, I looked and the H&F and one of the mounting legs on the stock is broken, long lived the plastic high quality mounts! After I had seen that I ordered this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835103057

Will it be ok for now?

P.S. Is ther ea program that will load and keep the temps in system tray? I just got Everest Ultimate but don't know how to run it yet.

Thanks, JASTECH

JASTECH, coretemp is the program you want for cpu temp monitoring and it does show the temps in the system tray. That cooler should be OK although I would recommend a Xigmatek S1283 with or without the crossbow mounting kit instead.

jandlecack, you have nothing to worry about, those temps are fine.

Is Core Temp better then Everest Ultimate?

I did finally get Everest to display on system tray, had to tick it in options.

Thanks, JASTECH

In my experience I prefer coretemp. On my QX6850 coretemp always shows higher temperatures than everest so I mainly use coretemp for CPU temp monitoring.
