These cards are nearly silent and produce about 4320 ppd when paired with a C2D or X2 cpu and overclocked slightly (both of mine run 650/900 with no issues). Throw one of these in your older box and watch the ppd climb nicely.
 
Techpowerup review of EVGA 8800GS

Take a look, lots of good stuff there including game benchmarks, power consumption and fan noise measurements. This card is definitely more powerful than the x1950pro (the FEAR benchmark puts them head-to-head, the 8800GS wins by 20-25%) and it should also consume less power & is definitely quieter (my pair are virtually silent).
