Just got an email from newegg with some items on sale and I thought this was a decent deal for those not needing too powerful of a card or for those on a budget.

I hear the eVGA 8800GS are very quiet (as compared to say, the XFX ones). Here's the newegg link

Edit: New Promo code for $15 off!: EMCAJAFAD Now $64.99AR.

I have pretty much the same setup as you.

I went with this instead:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814125089

b/c of the new G92 core and some charts I saw comparing the 256mb 8800gt with the 384mb 8800gs and the gt was winning consistently..plus I'm a NWN fan, so I was about to buy NWN2 anyway :)

This is replacing a 7900GT superclock from EVGA I've had 2.5 years now.

Looks like your 8800gt 256mb is OOS. Anyone else have an opinion?

For the resolution you're at the 8800gs will work quite nicely.

excellent deal, but i already got one for $50.00 after $30.00 rebate 2 weeks ago.

the deal was EA500 watt Antec PSU and 8800GS for $129.99 shipped - $30.00 rebate on the video card maeking it $50.00 after rebate, wish i could have gotten 2 and gone sli for $100.00 couse i would have a 500watt PSU sitting course they always come in handy anyway.

Does a 550watt antec true 2.0 sound like anough power for a pair of 8800gs's in SLI on a IP35-E with a E2160 at 3ghz and 3gb ram??? heck the entire rig cost me maybe $$300.00 $350.00 maybe.

The 256MB 8800GT falls far behind when you game at anything over 1280x1024......check out any of the reviews on the EVGA 8800GS in question to see how it's a much better card than the 256MB 8800GT...and cheaper to boot. (Not to mention EVGA's lifetime warranty!)

Nice deal. Ridiculous that the 9600GT isn't hitting these prices.

=(

I paid $104.99 AR + $7.53 shipping for this card less than one month ago.

Still a great card, but if I had just waited a little longer...

How well does this card do at 1680x1050?

I am looking for a card in the ~$100 range (lower is better) for my brother's new Dell Vostro 200 PC (C2D E4600 @2.4Ghz stock, 2GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, DVD-RW). The only two concerns I had were both regarding the power supply:

1) The PSU is a 300w unit with 18A on the 12V rail (I think its a bestec)
2) I'd need cables to convert the only two free SATA power connectors to molex (IDE) connectors, and then use those two molex connectors for the PCI-E 6-pin adapter (Anyone know where to get these for cheap?).

I wanted wait for a 9600GT since I've heard it draws less power and is possibly quieter than the 8800 series cards, but I'd still have that cable issue to worry about. However, I would not mind going with this card if it performs decently at 1680x1050 and I can get a hold of those adapter cables.

This a heck of a deal. I got the xfx 8800gs for 99 w/COD4. This is running on AMD x2 3800 oced to 2350 and it plays everything but crysis on high and most high setting for Crysis. Wish there were some sli benchmarks for the 8800gs and I would jump on this.

Yeah, I got the XFX 8800GS too. I, uh, commented in the thread skillyho linked above. I admit I kinda whined about the fan noise but that's a non-issue with this EVGA.

The GPU itself is great if you game with modest resolutions and just some eye candy. Also if you wanna crunch proteins for Folding@Home as a member of TeAm Anandtech, this card is a fantastic bang4buck point scorer.

I'm actually considering this for the crunching alone.

I had a XFX XXX 8800GS as a place holder for my new rig waiting for my 4870. It's a great card and I payed they same (when I get my rebate next month.) Played everything but Crysis at 1650x1080. I read the evga doesn't have the loud fan the XFX does.

I was taking a hard look at ATI 4850s for $150, but just didn't have the coin to shell out for it. A little less than half that price for my uses (sports and racing sims @ 1366x768) should work like a charm on the 8800GS. Thanks OP.

Well my new 8800gs evga card lasted about a hour, and the fan was kinda squeaky too.

I pulled my XFX 8800gs and put in the New Evga one and everything seemed fine till about a hour later the screen went all messed up and the computer froze, i checked the card and it was only a litttle warm.

And on reboot the bios was all artifacts, got to send it back to newegg for exchange, hope is was just a random bad card.

will post when i get the new one.

SLI on an IP35-E? Surely you jest.
