There is not much wrong with my current card
Specs Here
But they age fast and I am thinking about selling it, recovering money for it, and moving on to the "next best thing".

I have an Allendalle C2D E4300 at 2.4GHz
And also this board: Specs

My budget is around $230.00.
Should I sell this card now and spend few bucks on the 9800+ series?
Or should I go with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 route?

Also, if the HD 4850 is faster than the my 8800GTS, how much should I ask for my current card in order to sell it quickly?

P.S. I don't really believe in SLI. I wanna get a card with a maximum performance and lowest energy use....

I don't think it's worth the hassle tbh. A 4850 is hardly faster than a 9800GTX, which like a tiny bit faster than a 8800GTS 512.

Unless you're moving to a GTX260/4870 or GTX280 I'd say its not worth it. I would even say the jump to a 4870/GTX260 is hardly worth it, unless you're playing at 1920 or something.

K,
Looks good, but how is the GTX 260's energy use?
I know that it's made in 55nm process, but on the other hand the gpu's die is big...

Don't bother with either the 9800+ or 4850. I went from an 8800GT to 4850, and I wouldn't recommend this path. GT260 or 4870 is the minimum you should consider.

Have you tried o/c the 8800GTS to get the last bit out of it?

It is really not about the performance to be honest. With video cards you kind of have to know when to "get out"...
IMO, if I could sell my current card and add up to $50.00 ~$70.00 for a next gen card, it just makes sense to do it.
I have to start looking at the hot deals forum and try to find the GTX260 for $220.00 AR...

Edit: The GTX280 looks like a power sucking monster (aka vacuum cleaner). The FX series redoux.

I wouldnt bother upgrading, i have the same card with a 3.2ghz e6400 and im not complaining, every game runs just fine at 1920x1200 except for crysis. The value of these cards really tanked after ati released their recent cards, you're not going to get any decent card if you sell this one and add $70. You'll be lucky to get $100 for it.

I was in the same boat you're two days ago but I now do know two things:

My GTX-260 is en-route and will be here on the 30th.
My current 8800GTS (G92) will either be up for sale or going to my 2nd rig.

I do game on 1900x1200, a faster gpu and wider memory bandwidth such as the 260 should help fps/aa/af and alike.

well if you're thinking of "getting out", I think you better do it quick because NV is ready to release a new wave of "+" cards in August. So Ebay your GTS now. If you wait any longer, than the 4850 and 9800+ will be the next "baseline" gaming cards, and your GTS will only drop further.

The law of diminishing return is well in force in this hobby...
This is worse than another hobby of mine: audiophile in which at least I've often been able to resell my gear at cost or sometime with little extra cash in hand.

I have a pair of 512mb 8800GTS cards in sli.
And i'm afraid its way past time to "get out" as you put it.
Unless you get very lucky and get more than $120 - $130 for it on ebay.

I usually do what you're talking about and use my old card to help fund my upgrade card.

But as you also stated, theres no need for the extra performance right now.

So for once in my life, i'm trying to show some restraint and wait it out a few more months until games start stressing my system.

And by then there will be cards faster than whats available now and will be a better upgrade anyway.
