If a 3rd part app like RivaTuner, ATITool, etc. works then I don't see why people would want to risk flashing the bios and voiding the warranty in the first place.

Yes.

They allow you to even change the cooler though right without voiding the warranty...and isn't there more risk in that if you don't do it properly?

Those applications would not let you change the memory timings.

It is very easy to kill a card by flashing the card to a wrong file. The intelligence is in the BIOS. You can change the voltages in the BIOS. If you raise a voltage too much, you can damage a chip instantly.

Installing the cooler wrong will raise the temperature of the card. I understand that these cards have throttling. So, the card automatically slows down before its temperature reaches the point of no return! Although, I am not 100% sure about the throttling. But, that is the only reason I can imagine why they allow it.

Yeah I suppose...I guess overclocking would be safer than playing with the BIOS.

I am pretty sure that EVGA allows you to flash the BIOS. You just can't physically damage the card, aka take off some resistors, throw it out the third floor window, etc. I think they made that quite clear, even though you "could" physically damage the card with a bad bios flash, but the same could be true with some extreme OC'ing.

Meh. I am happy :)

As far as o/c'ing the memory. The best I could manage is < 820 and stable, in my GTO. Anything beyond 820 I instantly got artifacts and 3dmark06 froze at the very last test (freeze test) and locked up my rig (no bsod though, just blank screen).
As for core, stable at < 690 but not beyond.

I also just dicussed my numbers with Chris who is eVGA tech support this morning confirms my fear that both of the memory and the gpu of the GTO which are not the same type used inside the GTX.
I used ATItool to push memory over 800 since coolbits would not allow at that 800 margin.

I agree with Zebo, coolbits is the way to go. Why the F#$K would someone want to void their warranty to accomplish something that a feature inherent in a driver that MUST be installed would do? No third part software, no warranty voids.

Besides, don't you want to Step-Up? ;)

I bought two of these bad boys and plan to run them at 650/800 for the next year. Killer price/performance ratio. Coolbits baby...

Just flashed mine from .13 to .08 & had similar results. Wouldn't pass the frequency test at 720ish before, now passes at 800 (auto-detected to 782 vs <700 previously).

Running at 700/800 now vs 700/700 before the flash.

I ordered one and it should be coming soon. Looks like the .08 GTO bios has the best oc results? What about a GTX bios?
