eVGA 7900 GT KO Instability

Hi all,

I just recently used eVGA's step up proram togo from the 7600GT to the 7900GT KO. It works GREAT!

Except...

There seems to be times when the PC won't boot, or rather, my LCD monitor doesn't get a signal from the video card.

Worse still, Oblivion won't always play and sometimes it crashes. Oblivion lists many video cards that it recognizes and the 7900 series is not listed so I guess that's fair. And F.E.A.R runs well.

Is there anything I can do about this?

TIA...

Can you run the Comanche benchmark test without crashing?

Edit:
From that link, under the "Demos" tab, download the "Comanche 4 DirectX 8.1 Benchmark Demo" and install.

I have tried to download this a few times. I am getting like 11kb every 10 seconds or so. Is there another place to download it from?

Cancel that, I downloaded it.

But how do I make it run the benchmark? I can play the demo, but don't see the benchmark option. Is it a command argument?

Ok, obviously I am an idiot. But besides that, here's my results (LOL):

Comanche 4 Benchmark Results for 1600x1200x32 FSAA=2 VSync=OFF DXTC=ENABLED AUDIO=OFF SHADERS=ENABLED

Frames per second: 70.91 avg
Tris per second: 14,121,825 avg

Is that good?

There were a bunch of 7900 cards that worked for a few days after purchase but then started acting up. After playing some games after exiting the game, the monitor would give a black screen and come back and go black and come back on and on!

Many of those cards also could not run this benchmark and running the benchmark would cause the same blanking.

eVGA since then have started shipping corrected cards as far as I know.

Since you received your card recently and were able to run the benchmark with no such symptoms, it sounds like the problem is something else.

Unfortunately, I cannot help. I don't have any experience with your problem. Hopefully someone else can help.

Good Luck!

i would rma just to be on the safe side, if youve tried all the obvious things, its almost no loss to you just to rma. eVGA is pretty speedy unless they have a shortage of cards, in which case their KO's are plentiful.

there is my results:

Comanche 4 Benchmark Results for 1600x1200x32 FSAA=0 VSync=OFF DXTC=ENABLED AUDIO=ON SHADERS=ENABLED

Frames per second: 53.15 avg
Tris per second: 10,587,723 avg

However, the first time it crashed and passed from second time only.

I have the same card, got it the last week.
I think my score so low as I run on P4 3.2g

any comments are welcome

The card seems to be ok actually. Oblivion will have a problem once in a while (see below), but I don't even know if it is the card or not. After all, the card is not recognized by Oblivion (at least not yet), so who knows...

I really do think my card is fine. The only problem I have seen is that the screen will turn a single color and there will be diagonal and horizontal lines. This happens sometimes with Oblivion, or when I run the Comanche Benchmark at 1600x1200 with VSync disabled. If I go to a lower rez, I can disable VSync.

Anyways, that works for me. And with a score of 70, I feel pretty good.
