I'm thinking about getting the 780I board, but I don't want to use the fan for the north bridge. I want silence in my pc 🙂 is it possible to not use the fan or is it a must? I won't be overclocking everything will be run stock...

It's "possible", I've read some people have done it with success. It all depends on how much stress you're going to be putting on the NB, a lot of things you can do will heat it up without overclocking.

I built my son a machine based on the evga 780i machine last month and it's been a pretty good mb so far. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't use hard caps everywhere unlike asus and msi which have moved away from the old caps.

It's a different type of capacitor used on motherboards and other electronic gizmos. Some ppl swear the solid ones are better than electrolytic ones, but personally I've had motherboards with electrolytic caps on them and they're still running well after 5 or 6 years.

Worrying about what kind of caps your board uses is probably the least of your concerns, they're just as likely to fail as any one of the random 1001 things that can cause your board to fail.

Just get a board from a good company with a solid record of support for their products so if something should go wrong you can RMA it.

Puffnstuff: How does your Stryker 2 Formula cooperate with the Q6600? Do you overclock the CPU? My quad-core overclocking on EVGA 780i wasn't very successful. I thought the NB runs hot (which I took care of by way of after-market cooler) but when I installed my quad the NB got unbelievably hot.

Well I have an Asus P5E X38 board now. I was thinking of getting the Evga 780I for sli in the future, but I'm worried about performance of the 780I compared to the X38
