evga 7800GTX KO SLI

Just got in my 7800GTX KO step up card today to put in SLI with my other one. Been waiting for over a week just to have the KO edition cards w/out BF2 go on back order...but I actually got mine today but it's the ROSE color!?!?!? So now I have a black and a Rose one in SLI.

I wonder if I'm the first customer to get another color besides black?? Oh well I don't really care about the color anyway...

Everything SEEMS to be running fine in SLI except for BF2. It seems like I'm getting low FPS all the time and switching resolutions doesn't seem to help. BTW: was running BF2 @ 16x12 4x/8x everything maxed with a single card and it ran fine but now it doesn't...

Everything else seems ok though...got 29,901 in 3dmark03 at stock speeds and a bit over 12k in 05. Thought the 05 score should be a little higher but I dunno.

Anyone running SLI with some experience please help... sorry for the long post...
 
Can you explain what you did to setup your SLI? Step by step, please. i.e. jumpers, settings on the motherboard, BIOS changes, driver changes, etc.
 
Doom 3 seems to run fine @ 1600x1200 Ultra 4x/8x
Half Life 2 runs fine @ 1920x1440 Maxed 4x/8x

Asus A8N SLI Deluxe with bios rev. 1011
2x Evga 7800GTX KO's @ stock(coolbits not installed)
Not using vsync in any game

here it goes...(did this after the problems occured w/BF2)

1. booted into safe mode and uninstalled 77.77 drivers
2. used driver cleaner pro with the nvidia filter
3. turned off system and installed 2nd GTX + SLI bracket
4. Flipped the selector to dual video cards
5. turned back on...entered bios...SLI AI selector @ AUTO
6. booted into windows and installed 77.77 drivers and enabled SLI
7. rebooted and then started testing with different programs
8. same problems so then I repeated all the above steps to put the 77.72's back on and still the same problems in BF2...

BF2 @ 1600x1200 85hz maxed 4xAA ran fine with 1 GTX and 77.72's or 77.77's(I think) but when I installed the 2nd card it kinda lags when you're looking around like it's getting low FPS or something(especially around explosions)...Put it this way: the game runs pretty much the same at 1024x768 maxed 4x/8x as it does at 2048x1536 maxed 4x/8x!!?!? (Like A$$)

I only have a few ideas left....

I'm gonna try setting the SLI AI selector in the bios to "dual video cards" instead on "auto"

Do you mean the EZ selector card?? If so then yes...pretty sure thats the only one

 
It could be because BF2 is coded rather sh*t.
The game itself is partitioned by many gamers, because has too may glitches..

Maybe it could be the driver..
 
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing same about sh*t code. Maybe it is the drivers though...hmm...well when I run the CS stress test @ 1920x1440 maxed 4x/8x I get 164FPS avg. so maybe it's working...
 
or maybe it's because my gtx ko with the black heat sink is owning the other one because it's pink(evga calls it rose)...I still don't know why they would send me the rose colored one...it even says "Actual fansink color:black" on the back of the box...they could have at least sent me the silver one... 😉 yay I have a pink video card 😱

That is pretty lame. Did you get your KO's via Step-Up or did you buy them retail?
 
The rose one came from the Step up program. I bought the black one. If nvidia comes out with a new card in the next 3 months I'm good for at least 1 of 'em. 😉
 
Well after running all my other games I've come to the conclusion that BF2 needs some work and that it alone is probably my problem...I would say it sucks if I didn't like it so much...oh well it's still playable most of the time just not what it should be. Guess I'll sit around and wait for an update...heard an update is coming out in august with 140+ fixes or is that the one that's already out??

Not so sure how I feel about that. I'm working on stepping up my GTX'es (pending stock at eVGA), and really don't want a pink KO. Although if the package said you were supposed to get a black one, you might be able to get them replace it with a black one.

lol, yeah I might try for another black one...if I don't look at it too long it's not so bad though...

are you sending in 2 evga gtx's for 2 ko's?

 
Yeah I am, they don't have any KO's in stock at the moment, so I'm waiting on a response from eVGA. I will probably stagger the step-up, so I have 1 video card at all times.
 
Yeah I bought one and waited till it arrived before I sent my original gtx in. Are you using the 1013 bios on your asus board?
 
I tried the BF2 demo with my single card and haven't installed the copy I got with my second card yet. It ran fine with the singe card.
