eVGA 7800gtx ko, sli and crossfire

i purchased the eVGA 7800GTX KO w/o much research; i only got it cuz thats what everyone had. is there another 7800gtx 256mb that is considered better than the eVGA?

when did the ati x1800xt crossfire come out? are two of those set in crossfire better than 2 7800gtx in sli. (either 2 256mb gtx or 512mb gtx)

Sorry for being so uninformed... haven't researched a single gfx card since getting my radeon9700 pro 3 years ago.

not really. EVGA seems to be the best out there right now.

I don't really know, but it wasn't too long ago

If you ignore the fact that they can't go above 1600x1200 when in crossfire mode, then i think they're a bit faster than 2 256MB 7800GTXs, but they can't toutch 2 512MB 7800GTX's.

Just to let you know, they removed the resolution limit on the X1800's.

@OP

evga is a great company and I'm sure you will not be disappointed. If your going from a Radeon 9700pro your performance increase will be so great it's off the chart.

Now I would have said save a little money and get the GT, but still a 7800GTX is a great card and if you game it's still a great card.

Now on to the performance questions. I wouldn't get crossfire this generation even if it beat GTX in SLI simply because the platform has not matured enough for me to be "confortable" in purchasing it.

I just looked at "my first build" and you got a nice computer there. Enjoy it

Wow nice system wizboy11 (or should i say, wizboy 12 ). That looks almost excactly like a dream system i was dreaming about putting together, only mine had a prometia cooler for the CPU, an opty 180, and 2 512MB 7800GTXs liquid cooled (yeah i know you can't find them anymore).

wow thx crescent, you told me exactly what i was asking about. I just regret getting the gtx ko a little bit because at the time of buying it, i didnt realize it's at the end of its prime as the highest end card, with the new g71 gpus coming at and whatnot. i should have gotten a GT like wizboy said; spent 580 on the gtx ko just a week ago, when my original plan was to get two GT's in SLi.
