Can anyone give me an idea of how loud these cards are? Is it worth it to get the copper version for cooling/noise?

TIA

It's fairly loud. Even in a p180 case with the fans volted to 5v, it still is very loud, but hums slightly when put to about 25% fanspeed.

The copper one has a GTX style cooler and is supposed to be considerably quieter than the normal one. I have two of them and they are a little noisy at the default fan settings, but become inaudible over my other fans if the fan speed is turned down a bit (which has a minimal effect on the temperatures).

The 516 and 517 cards both have the copper heatsinks. The 516 is usually about $25 cheaper and many (most?) of them come at the 517's speeds out of the box.

I have an EVGA 7800GT CO edition. Just grab Rivatuner and knock it down to the lowest mark when you aren't gaming. It's completely silent and the temperatures stay the same.

Good to know. Thx all. I think I'll pick up the 516 then.

I have a 516, it came at 517 speeds. I don't have a 515 to compare it to, but I do know it easily is the loudest thing in my case. My other componants are a 120mm Globe Fan on my Scythe Ninja, 120mm front Panaflo medium speed, and 120mm rear fan that came with my Antec SLK3000b.

If it concerns you that much, pick up an Nv Silencer for it.
My 6800GS was a screamer out of the box... This silencer, for $29 really made it silent, and cool! 30C idle & 40C Load is nice!
