EVGA 7800GT OC OC's??

I just got the 470/1100 version of this card. Removed stock cooler, used Arctic Silver 5 and put back on. Coolbits option to find optimal speeds puts it at 492 core/1.4 memory.

Nice cool case, it seems rock solid. How high are these things clocking?? How about core temp under load? Lastly, does an adjustment to PCIe voltage in bios do anything? That bios option is a new one for me. I just graduated from AGP...

Holy crap man!

What was your stock coolbits optimal speeds (stock cooler i mean).

with my stock cooler i get 485/1150 anything higher gives me artifacts 🙁

Yea, I thought it seemed high. But with stock cooler and Arctic Silver, optimal settings consistently come in around 492-494 core and 1.3 to 1.4 memory. I didn't check load temp, but idle temp on core was showing 38 degrees! I haven't stressed it yet, am doing that 2nite. Interesting optimal setting though, huh?

Good times.

However, I hear that AS5 isn't a good thermal compound solution for videocards. Things like it's very conductive, it doesn't transfer heat fast enough between GPU and HSF (doesn't seem to be the case with you), that AS3 is a better thermal compound for GPU's, and other unverified claims. Can anyone confirm this?

I've used AS5 on my Arctic Cooling Silencer-ed X800XL, worked fine. Ask Liver, I sold it to him. I'd like to try the same on these 7800GTs.

As for 7800GT overclocks, 470/1.27 seems to be the highest I can go. Coolbits detects 470/1.11, though.

Yea, I'm leery of using AS5 on the memory; gotta be careful. I've goofed and gotten it on connections once with no trouble.

. I just realized one thing on memory OC... 1.14, not 1.4

Oh no..
I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be using it on the ram chips, for those you use a non-conductive paste, such as alumina or ceramique..

Good thing the AC Silencer has sticky thermal pads already on it, then.

I could've really messed things up.

Impressive memory clock. Let us know how it works in the real world.

I don't know about everybody else, but ever since the 81.94 drivers, my supposedly "optimal settings" in Coolbits have been unstable in most games and I'm having to back down.

The 1.14GHz for your mem seems more reasonable, that should be possible, maybe even higher... AS5 on mem is a no-go if you're not careful with it... On the core however, it gave me a lower temp, so I guess it's pretty good as well...
