hi guys

I am into SFF now and got the eVGA 7800GT for my system. However, it is too loud for me even when on idle.

are there any programs to reduce the fan speed ? I cannot get ntune to install on my setup (not compatible :().

Sorry, I am coming back to nvidia after about an year or so....been an ATI person for the last year or so....so not upto date on the tools/utilities for nvidia

I had the same problem and couldn't find a program. Speedfan might work for you, but it wouldn't change the VGA fan speed with my mobo

The fans on the GT are total CRAP - I put a Zalman VF-700 on after only one day! No sound at all!

You are better off getting an aftermarket cooler. The stock coolers just can't cut it for the GTs.

FYI - The GTXs have different fans than the GT (bigger and quieter)

yeah..i figured that. But the problem is that I cannot use an aftermarket cooler unless it is almost the same size as the original cooler. This card will be used in a SFF and I dont have an extra empty pci/pci-e slot for the bigger aftermarket coolers. :(

will the eVGA GTX heatsinks and fan fit the GT and how quiet they are (relative to x800xl).

Will rivatuner work to reduce the fan speeds ?

The Zalman is pretty low-profile, it might fit in you SSF

I'm not sure about the GTX heatsink- you should contact EVGA and ask, they have great customer service. yes, the GTX is ALOT quieter than the GT (at least EVGA).

I use Rivatuner and don't know about any fan control, but I haven't researched that option yet.

I was also bitching about my BFG 7800GT's noise until I installed rivatuner. You can have your fan speed go down to 20% which makes it very tolerable. It's easy to install, works well and best of all it's FREE.

Try it before you buy a new HSF.
