EVGA 7800GS Problems

I'm upgrading from a GeForce4 Ti4200. Needless to say, I was expecting a huge, noticeable difference. I've tried 3 sets of drivers, the best result being the recommended set from EVGA's website. Some games look really good (Call of Duty 2) and others seem not so special. (Half Life 2, SW Empire at War)

I'm wondering, I guess, which is more likely the culprit; Bad drivers or a weak PSU. I'm not at home right now to check, but I think my PSU is 400w. I've been reading that there's a lot more to take into consideration, though, regarding a power supply.

Any thoughts, suggestions? Geeks welcome.

Help! Doesn't anyone have this card, too? Have you seen driver issues? Are insufficient PSU's a common cause for poor performance? I just shelled out $300 for this card cause I didn't want to get a new mobo/cpu/etc...

u have to get the drivers from the nvidia.com website, the ones on evga.com are not updated (the use the same drivers) the correct virstion is 84.XX i think

I put this card in last night, haven't noticed any issues yet with the 81.98 drivers I already had installed, but then I haven't pushed it too far. I won't bother updating until the "oblivion optimized" drivers due out tomorrow. I know 3dmarks are meaningless, but I was very happy with the bumps in scores due soley to the new vid card - all the nature demos were stellar.

My PSU was a solid performer at the time I built my rig, but as I said, I haven't really done a proper burn-in yet. The 7800GS supposedly doesn't draw as much power as the 6800 series AGP cards.

You may also not be seeing the performance you expected due to CPU scaling - p4 2.4 ghz probably won't milk the full potential of a 7800GS. That's just a stab in the dark though.

I'll have to get my PSU settings tonight when I get home. Can someone explain the 12v rail and other PSU specifics?

LOOK, UPDATE UR DRIVERS FROM THE NVIDIA WEBSITE FIRST.
dont waste ur money yet. update ur drivers to 84.?? first the evga.com is linking to an OLDER driver virsion that may not support your card

My daughter has a Ti4200 card in her pc and I have the newer eVGA 7800GS CO Superclock in my pc and mine is leaps and bounds in performance and looks over hers. The 7800GS has even more noticeable improvement over the 9800Pro 256 card it replaced and that 9800Pro is even better than the Ti4200. Granted some games you cant improve much upon due to the way the developers built it but for the most part most games should look better.
