EVGA 7800 GT Problems

I would really like some help here. I just built a new system. (Specs below)

My current problem is with my EVGA 7800 GT.

I am on a fresh install.
I have tried the EVGA drivers, the NVIDIA drivers that EVGA recommended, and the latest release 8.1.8.2 that is currently running.
I have updated the bios as EVGA had asked me to do.
I also tried running Speed fan to grab the voltage. As I was told this could be a problem. However it crashed the CPU.

Antec 430 True power
Epox 9NPA+Ultra
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2 Gb corsair ram
7800 gt Driver 8.1.8.2
DirectX 9.0c
WD Raptor 74
I have 2 monitors but I have tried it with just running one.

The graphics have rainbow colors all over the place

And the frame rate is almost unplayable at the lowest settings.

I also can?t explain my distaste for EVGA.

They said their tech is 24/7 I woke up at 3:45 am and waited on hold until 6 am no one picked up. This is the third attempt to contact them. I did however get though once. About a week ago when they told me to install the news bios in the card; I was also mad that I HAD to register the card to attain the new bios. Past that I know if I need to RMA this thing they dock you for shipping, they don?t cross ship and it takes a week or 2 to get it back. Which is NOT feasible if you?re a college student.

Please help. I am considering trying to return the card but I am not sure if my return policy is over yet. Ideas etc

Thanks in advance you?re responses.

From EVGA:

Requirements
Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
An available 6 pin PCI-E power connector (hard drive power dongle to PCI-E 6 pin adapter included with card)

I'm just looking into the 7800 vs the GTO2 and doing some research. Noticed your a bit short on your PSU and wondered if that could be causing a problem.

Those PSU requirements are often VERY conservative. A quality 350+ is more than enough for a single video card, and Antec is quality.

Thanks, I was wondering just that. I've got a 350 & 430 TP from Antec and have been very pleased with both.

No problem. I'm a dedicated Antec user. Every power supply and case I've ever bought for my own personal usage has been from Antec. Matter of fact, I just bought a Smart Power II 380W to replace my first gen. Smart Power 380W.

Well, a GOOD 350w PSU is enough, but do you have the molex plugged in on the back of the card?

PCI-e cards dont need molex connectors. and it's likely not a PSU problem.

Ok so any conclusions, beyond the PS as to what?s going on. I am thinking I will return it if I can and buy BFG so that future problems would be resolved with a quick trip to best buy for an exchange =) not so ethical but hey.

I can?t say how disappointed I am enough with this experience. EVGA messed up with the bios from the factory. No QQ and it?s a 350$ card. Lastly their guarantee is less than world class once you read the fine print.

I will give them one last chance with a final email as they have thus far they have been unresponsive to phone calls. The response I get will be posted positive or negative. To help everyone make future decisions about how they take care of their customers.

Thanks for everyone?s responses

RMA the card...I got a bad EVGA 7800GT and just sent it packing last Friday. If you care to try...EVGA has at least 2 newer BIOS updates for this card on their web-site. Quite a few folks got bad cards and/or a bad BIOS.

Since the card didn't work out of the box, I didn't want to take a chance and just RMA'd it for a repair or replacement.

Regards,

Bud
