Okay i just started up my computer today. installed Nforce drivers, DX9, Nvidia Graphics drivers.

I install HL2 and go on CS:Source

i keep everything default and join a game and i'm getting really bad fps. my monitor's native resolution is 1280x1024, and i put source as 1024x768. i'm getting around 30-40 fps but it's a really BAD 30-40 fps. playable, but noticeably bad movement. should i be getting this kind of fps or do i have to tweak my computer/settings?

one thing to add, my ram is some hitachi branded 1gb stick of pc4200 ddr because right now...ocz PC6400 has gone to ****** with most AM2 boards...could that be it also?

The 7600GT should be killing source... I would check to see if you don't have any uber-high AA modes on, that might be the problem.

i have AA under application controlled...and everything on source is on default which is 2x i believe. the map i was playing was dust2

7600gt can easily handle CSS on 1024*768 or 1280*1024 with AA and AF... are you getting normal performance on other games?

make sure you don't have any crazy temperature monitoring software running like NTune. That thing polls often enough it crushed fps on my 7900GT as well. Duly uninstalled. 😉

right now not gaming im getting 45c. i haven't really tried any other games...havne't had time due to work but what other games should i consider? would WoW or HL2 be good indicators of the performance from my card? also, i did the video stress test and i got 46.5 fps...which is lower than what it should be correct?

okay i just ran HL2. i'm getting okay fps...still around 40-50 but again it is noticeably lagged and choppy...which shouldnt be the case, right? i guess i'll try installing my graphics card drivers again? or would that be a bad idea? if i did...would i uninstlal my current graphics drivers then install or just go ahead and install again?
