Granted, I bought this card as a budget addition to my second computer to give it more horsepower than the Radeon 9550 that was in it (for possible use as HD converter or DVR). However, I looked at reviews, and all seemed to be for the 256MB version though I assumed they would be more or less comparable in terms of hardware (not performance).

So, I install the card, and it's FREAKIN' LOUD! It's more or less the tone, which is very high pitched and whiny, for lack of a better term, and my wife says it would drive her to drink which necessarily precludes it from being a HTPC card without modifications. Has anyone else seen this with the 7300GS or is something wrong with mine?

Next question: Is it worth getting some sort of aftermarket addition to replace the fan, which is tiny? I have no idea what that costs and whether or not it's feasible for me to attempt to replace the fan with some of the older heatsink fans I have lying around. Or, should I just sell this one and get something else? I paid $40 after rebate so you can get an idea of the budget I'm on for this (ie., low priority!).

Thanks in advance for any help!

You could either:

1. Contact the manufacturer and try to get it replaced.
2. Buy a Zalman GPU cooler for $20, not too hard to install yourself.
