eVga 6800GT vs ATI 9800 Pro Benches

I'm gonna run some benchmarks tonight, but wanted to ask people here if they would like to see a specific bench or game tested. I do plan on testing the HL2 beta as well, Doom 3 beta if I can find a copy without file errors.

I voted Far Cry, but I'd also be interested in Aquamark too.

Don't have a link, but somebody here posted about seeing a link to get Far Cry to run on Open GL, instead of D3D. Don't know much about it, but wondering if it might be interesting to bench FC both ways with these cards.

EDIT: D@mn Dude, what'd you do to that 9800 pro

Well, if I'm testing OpenGL, I may use RTCW instead of Q3 (same engine) because my sucky monitor doesnt show resolution above 1280x1024, so with Q3 I may have CPU capping. RTCW is a little bit heavier of detials. I'm going to run 1280x1024 no AA/AF and 1280x1024 with full AA/AF on both cards.

My vote would be for demos of newer games that ATi and nV haven't spent months optimizing for. Maybe Ground Control II, the new TOCA, the latest Tiger Woods? There must be more shadery games out there to test.

But I'd really appreciate 3DM03 GT2 & 3 numbers, in anticipation of Doom 3. Be sure to use Cat 4.7 for the 9800P, as ATi claimed some recent improvements. You may as well throw in GT4 scores, too, to see how much better the GT is with a heavier PS2.0 scene.

Yes, I'm one of the two 3DM03 votes. 🙂 I've seen enough benchmarks of the other games, and ATi's claim of improved GT2 & 3 performance just ahead of Doom 3's release is worth a look, IMO.

shadermark would be nice to, to see if nvidia has enabled those shaders that didn't work before.

I agree with pete, get something they haven't been planning on, this will show true performance vs. performance tweaked for a specific game.

What i'd really love to see is someone with the same system compare 6800GT to X800Pro

no one really cares to compare old with new because it has been compared 10000 times and you already know the new will be at least 100% faster in all new games at high detail settings.

On another note, can't you get a new 9800Pro since it is probably still under a 3 year warranty and overheating should be covered....?

This is definately something id also be interested in rather then my vote for farcry. This is something that would interest many of us and be a huge hit sense its not the same old.

Yes. I am RMA'ing to ATI today. Gonna try to squeeze a 9800 pro 360 core out of them.
