eVGA 6800GT core won't overclock

I'm observing my core and memory speeds via "hardware monitor" in RivaTuner. When I adjust my memory speeds, I can see the graph update to reflect the new speed. However, the core speed will not change whether I over or underclock it. Benchmarks seem to suggest this is not a mistake: I scored 38,000 in Aquamark (55k is normal) running the card at 200 core/600 memory. Similarly, when I overclock to 400/1100, I can only reach about 58k. Above that, scores fall off rapidly.

Has anyone else observed this, or have any suggestions for what I can try? I'm using the VXG modified 71.24 alpha drivers.
