eVGA 6600GT problem on startup

I have an eVGA 6600GT AGP in my kid's machine that sometimes displays odd colored blocks and lines during a cold boot. To get it to boot properly, I need to quickly shut it off then restart it. It then boots normaly into Windows. Any ideas as to what's causing this?

System specs:
Abit NF7 v.2
Athlon XP 1600+
Cooler Master Real Power 350w (16A @ 12v)
Maxtor 120GB HDD
CD drive
DVD drive
Windows XP SP2

Hmmm I don't want to say it was overheating (it could be). But was the monitor's cable secured properly in either the vga/dvi ports? How does the card fare on intense 3d applications ? Was there any artifacts right after boot?

Then again...had you tried testing the system out with a different psu 🙂 ?

Yup, it's been in a system with an Antec SmartPower 2.0 500watt PSU with the same results. It plays all games just fine. It's not overheating. It only does it on a cold boot. Afterwords, it boots fine. I would'nt say it was a big problem yet, just annoying not knowing why it does that.

Hey Big Daddy I have a similar problem, 2/10 starts my computer will do what you describe. And then will ocasionally repeate the process when i turn off computer nad turn it back on. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING! I belive it is a modle issue. the 6600GT gets very hot, and has power issues.
I am currently having a much more sever issue but i reccomend you place card on its own line from PSU. And buy a new Heatsink for your GPU. That is what i plan on doing.
Tell me if you figure out what is wrong 🙂
