Hello all. =================

All that hardware is running off a 360 watt power supply. I probably need to upgrade huh?

Okay, so I ran 3dmark2001 and got a score of 4330. Thats like 500 less than my fx 5200. Another thing, how the heck do people get scores of 15000 in 3dmark2k1? If you can help me figure out why this card is running so crappy, let me know. I suspect its just the power supply problem, but if there is anyything else, please let me know ;)

Did you remember to plug in the power connector to the card? What brand is your psu? If it's a generic, replace it for sure. Even if it's a good brand you might need to upgrade, you have quite a few hd's. Try checking your voltages.

Also, if you did plug in the power connector, make sure that the connector works and has power supplied to it.

Yeah make sure you have the card plugged into your power supply or else your fan won't work and the card won't run at full power.

I don't know about 2001 but on 3DMark03 I get about 5000 with my FX5900SE. Alot of people are getting 5500 but I don't mess with oc'ing and tweaking enough to bother with it.

I get 6000 ;) with a Barton 2500+ at Stock speed but mines a 5900nu with 2.2ins ram and i overclocked it a bit :)
500Mhz Core and 998Mhz Memory :) maybe thats why i got 6000 point hehe :)

CPU doesnt do allot for 3Dmark2003 as i had my Athlon at 1.8Ghz

okay, I searched for that dumb power plug earlier and some how missed it, but found it now. Pluging it in gets me 10k in 3dmark2k1. After about like 10 minutes in the game it gets EXTREMELY choppy. So I figure the card is not getting the power it needs. I dont have enough power plugs for my 4 hard drives, dvd burner, and card. Can anyone suggest a good power supply to handle the following:

p4 3.0 ghz with hyper threading
intel mobo with built in 10/100/1000 lan and sound card
512 megs ddr 333
4 hard drives
1 dvds burner with the possibility of another dvd drive in the future
1 firewire card
eVga 5900se video caed
I also power about 5 usb devices off this

I have a great little ps, a TigerPro 360 watt, but I think this is just a tad bit too much for this monster rig.

I'm not sure how you conclude that... but let's assume your right. Why don't you try unplugging a few HD's and CD roms to see if the EXTREME choppyness goes away because of the extra power...

Play some single player games or run 3DMark (2001 or 03)in a loop and see if that creates "choppiness". I'd also unplug some hard drives and see if that helps. I remember upgrading from a GF4 Ti4600 to my 5900 and having strange lockups that were solved by upgrading my generic 420W PSU to a 350W Fortron.

I got a tigerpro 350 watt, what should I upgrade to? And I ran 3dmark and had no problems... wierd

Fortran makes good power supplies according to the reviews I've read, as does Antec. I think Anandtech, TechReport, and SPCR all did PSU reviews recently, so give 'em a look-see.

keysplayer was diplomatically trying not to laugh at your not plugging in the power connector, then (or simultaneously?) OCing the card and wondering why things weren't stable. Don't mind him. I'm sure he knows we all have our moments. :)

that would be laughable, but I didnt oc the card until after I plugged it in. Thanks for the heads up on the ps reviews, Ill take a look

FX cards require alot of power and if your running 4 hard drives you really should have a big power supply from a reputable company. An Antect True480 would probably work but I didn't run the math (nor would I). Here's an article on power supplies you may find interesting:

Power Supply Requirements

wth do you need 4 drives??? Go here and use the power need calculator to gauge how much power you are drawing with your present components.
power calculator
ps, i get about 1095 in 3dmark01 with no overclocking and driver 53.03. amdxp1900+ 133fsb . Mine runs fine with a enermax 350wpsu, but I dont have 4 drives and 5 usb devices .
Your power is low I bet, you should be showing 700 memory and 300 engine clock. And get your agp card on a nonshared irq! Remove the damn pci card thats directly under your agp slot. It shares same irq as the agp and besides, your 5900 needs the extra space under it to cool more efficiently.
Memory clock - 501.42 MHz
Engine clock - 250.71 MHz
IRQ - 16, shared

I download and archive a crapload of my tv shows, I really should stop being lazy and just burn them. Im thinking bout taking back the new serial ata drive I bought as I think it suxs balls. I dont have a pci card below my agp slot. Infact, I only have one oci card and its in the last slow of the mobo. I do have build in crap intel graphics with this board which I dont use becasue of the 5900se. Maybe thats whats sharing the irq?

Thermaltake Butterfly Purepower 480W. It has lots of conectors and it's really powerful.

Sorry shaxs, didn't mean anything by it. You will defiinitely get choppy gameplay when you connect to a game server with a poor network connection or high ping rate. You said you switched COD servers and it went away. The lower the ping rate on a server, the better network connectivity you will have. Smoother gameplay and such. It also depends on how many players are on the server. One player who has a poor internet connection could screw up gameplay for everyone on the server.

Its all good. Well it wasnt a poor server, but a crappy hd. I disconnected everything but one hd (my new sata) and got the same problems. I then decided to uninstall and reinstall on another hd. Works fine now. Im def. gonna return this crappy sata drive and get my 200 back.
