I wouldn't buy it. Non-modular and not 80+ . They claim 100,000 hours MTBF, but only offer a 2-year warranty?

Well, perhaps not for your "main rig" ("your baby"), but for a system-builder PSU that appears to be stout, of a brand name, and has a couple of PCI-E cables, I think it's not bad (for the current sale price). Certainly, better than a Raidmax (mostly?), and an Apevia (definitely).

Would I pay the $60 for the list price for this? Probably not for anything lower than an 80Plus Bronze.

You can get Antec VP ("value") series PSUs for around that price (the list price for this PSU, not the sale price) too, and those are likely better.

Edit: I'm not really trying to defend this PSU, or claim that it's somehow a "great" PSU, just that, at the $39.99 price-point, it has more wattage, more PCI-E cables, and a better brand-name than most. The only failings that I can see, are, no 80Plus, and it's unclear at what operating temps the PSU was tested at.

jonnyguru did a review, but it looks like the site is down. Looks like operating temp is 25C - OEM is HEC. Found a review of the 650 N1.

So 550 at 70% efficiency is 385watts. Still good for a budget build.
That's ... not how that works. "Efficiency", is not a de-rating.

De-rating usually occurs due to testing temp, and not efficiency, although that is linked to temps as well.

You can still pull 550W out of a 70% efficient PSU (on the DC loads), at whatever rated test temp, you just waste more AC power at the wall, going into the PSU, that gets turned into heat, that is used to power the DC load(s).

It's entirely possible, that this was tested at 550W @ 25C, and at 35C, it might only be rated at 450W, and at 45C, only 350W. Things work kind of like that (on a curve, really).

The new cheap PSU thread...

Geez, I guess I'm getting too old to build anything but a basic system anymore. Last year I started buying components to build a medium performance gaming rig for the first time in 10+ years. I got to the PSU and I'm like what? Buying a PSU has become a lot more complicated than it used to be. The major brand names are still there but so many options and you have to figure in the GPU which are difficult to get at a decent price...

I wound up buying that vipoutlet HP TG01-0023w gaming system for now to start playing games. :)

That $44.99 EVGA 600 BQ 80 Plus Bronze Semi Modular 600W Power Supply looks good for a future gaming build build. :)

Looks OK to me. Heck, next week they may slap a new sticker on it: "Elite GAMING power supply" , then double the price. Maybe even an RGB version for triple price :)

Just ordered this one. It's been in my cart for a couple of days and a 5% off coupon showed up in my cart today. It gave me $2.25 off so my final cost was $42.74 with free shipping. Thanks.

Now free shipping! (But see my thread about the ARESGAME 80Plus Bronze PSUs on sale right now, they may be a better deal.)
