eVGA 5200 AGP @ Office Depot of $10 + tax OTD YMMV

ok this is only my second hot deal posting so be kind.

so i was browsing the clearance section my local office depot (monrovia) and saw 2 eVGA 5200 128mb AGP passively cooled cards for $10 each out the door. rang up as $77.xx but after i pointed out that it was on clearance the cashier dropped it down to the correct price.

ive seen 6200's FAR at frys every once in a while but this 5200 is rebate free so i thought it was pretty warm/hot. this is perfect for a budget HTPC i was building for a friend and figure some of you might be looking for a decent non-gaming card (with decent TV out) for cheap as well. i bought 1 and left the other card in case anyone else wants one. since the card was on clearance YMMV with other office depot stores.

For those of us that are upgrading older cards (4200 for my system, and a GeForce256 for the kids' system!) this would be a great and easy step up for both systems. For that price it is a throw away kind of step up, too. Cheap enough that I don't have to get into the..."Well, since I am upgrading the video card it will need a new motherboard, so I may as well get a new CPU and some faster memory, too..." spiraling circle of debt. Now, if my local OD only had these in stock, that would just make it perfect. Have to go look.

5200 would be a downgrade (in terms of gaming performance) from a 4200. I have 2 of each type of card, and the 5200 blows for gaming. Does a decent job at HTPC though 🙂

Yoicks! If the StreetPrices (http://www.streetprices.com/x/search.cgi?query=evga+5200) pictures are correct, there are scads of 5200 variants: *N303-L2 (TV-out+1 VGA?), *N309-LX (LoProfile: 1VGA? + TV-out?), *N304-LX (DVI+VGA), *N306) (DVI+VGA), ....

Anyone know -which- model is going for $10? I'd like to get one for a friend who has a Shuttle shoebox w/ two LCD monitors: he works on huge spread-sheets afor modeling the effects of varying college "discounts (scholarships). This would allow him to add two more monitors (his old 20" CRTs) -- presuming the 5200 is compatible with the nVidia multi-video (card + on-board) drivers.

I'd want a dual-monitor model... and OfficeDepot doesn't list any Evga cards so I can't identify if this is the single or dual monitor variant.

it looks like your standard 5200 (1 DVI, 1 VGA, 1 svideo out). it comes with an DVI->VGA adapter but i believe it wont work the other way around. its standard sized (not one of those huge ones like the earliest 5200's). im just guessing off the top of my head here but its probably around 2in shorter than my 7900gt's. no molex power needed... 128mb... passively cooled. yes it works with nvidias unified drivers. think thats about everything, for anything else heres the P/N from the box: evga eforce fx 5200 128-a8-n304-a.

Thanks for the FAST and full reply. Time to harass the local OD and see if they've got one.

Note: My friend with the Shuttle -- for whom I'll buy this -- left with his family on Sunday for a Cruise boat taking them from San Juan to St. Kitts, etc. Hope they've a ton of Dramamine, judging from those Weather Channel pictures of the developing tropical storm!! 🙂 😕 🙁

Edit: Definitely YMMV. The OD in Deptford, NJ, indicated they have no Evga products in their inventory. Good luck, all!

I could use a couple AGP cards... I'll stop by on my way to Staples tomorrow.

I thought he said it was Office Depot?

Yes, he did say that.

If you thought when you were reading, you would understand that what that sentence means is that I will stop at Office Depot on my way to Staples.
