i find it very comical. :D

the complexities of that game are what have kept me from trying it out. that and it'd take to near my goal of having the most power in the virtual world, since massive groups and corporations and empires(?) already have a firm footing in the game.

Hehe,

AIG Executive: So, how'd you swindle the public?
Ricdic: I sold virtual money for real money

What exactly does the bank do besides provide loans to fledging corps? Are the player accounts simply isk that players gave to the bank with the expectation it would be loaned out and a % returned each week or month?

That's my take on it. The only problem is in a virtual game like EVE, while there may be "ramifications" if you default on a loan, what are they going to really do to you? Blackball your character?

Big deal, transfer all of your assets to a new character and lay low for a while. Its not like you can't ever have enough alts out there. As far as the game goes, it's not like they can actually get anything out of you even if they tried.

There is a certain... awesomeness to the insanity over there. It definitely appeals to a certain type of player.

The real reason why EVE is having problems is because of the incessant botting, macroing, and hacking. Where else do you think people get billions of isk to put in the e-bank? It's a perfect place to launder illegal isk. Sure, there are many bans going on every day, but at this point the cheaters cant be stopped. They simply buy a new character and open a new account when they get banned and continue making tons of isk.

and this is why i gave up on eve online after about an hour. people consider this gaming? :/

having a space game without first person combat is like playing quake as a point and click isometric game.

Stopped reading after this:

"rewards the greedy and violent, and punishes the hardworking and honest; and if you think about it, that's a good representation of capitalism."

Guy's full of shit.
I only played for a week and didnt touch on 1/10th of the depth, but one thing I did see is the game is NOT full of assholes. It wouldnt survive if it was. I've seen MMO's that somehow managed to get a load of assholes and thieves. They dont last. People hate it and leave. The game dies.

EVE is too successful to be completely broken.

I played it for a couple months about a year ago. It's pretty much a layed back atmosphere. Some co-workers and I made a small trade corp which we planned on transitioning into a bounty hunter corp after we had enough money.

Then I lost my job so I canceled my account.. damn, and I'm still unemployed now. Guess I should have kept playing.. I could have sold isk for real money and have it made.

Weird, I played EVE for just over 4 years and it seemed that there were fewer people who WOULD NOT try to cheat you somehow unless they were alliance mates.

OK, I just read past the first page of the blog, and while it was cruel, it was also funny in a sick way.
I epecially like the fact that some newb named Frostttt got 300 million free credits right after starting the game. I wonder what he did with it? Probably fill up his ship with goods and lose it to the first pirate he came across.

Know what would be even worse? If Nightfreeze never even bothered transferring to a 2nd account. Just deleted his character with the money still there. And tell people that he was going to do it too, just to piss them off.

Damn. I'm so glad I never got into that game. First time I got killed or lost a ton of money, I'd flip out. Better to not even get addicted. Also, I never got into the lore or community at all. Is this dude legendary? Have other scammers bested him? Are there now special rules in the game to keep people from doing this sort of thing?

If you are rational and don't react with blind ideology, you might do better - why don't you read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" and then comment?

It's a supernova of awesomeness. In a very peculiar way, but still awesome.

I'm glad I'm out of the whole MMO treadmill thing, but I find this really interesting.

Well to me, when things like this and the back-stabbing of BOB occurred, not to mention the early days of "Valentine" betrayals like with the Guiding Hand Social Club, it goes beyond a mere game and the chaos spreads out into real life. I remember one of the guys who was complicit in the CCP blueprint scandals when T2 was the new thing essentially dropped everything and quit the game because he was getting terrorized in RL. I quit because I was the manufacturer for my corp and it started to feel like a job I had paid dearly to keep working at. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was one of these unlucky people.

That's a very old story. I've read that about that happening a long time ago. Though it is true that you should never trust anyone in EVE. You can be friends as long as you don't give people your ISK or they don't ask you for ISK.

IMO its just a story although I dont doubt there are people on Eve doing this sort of thing (less the last part giving it all away at the end). All MMO games attract these sort of people. I think they are a minority though.
