everytime i click on "my computer" under desktop or in explorer, it freeze 2-4 secs

everytime i click on "my computer" under desktop or in explorer, it freeze 2-4 secs before it display the drives. samething happen when try to navigate the drive in a program.

anyone has anything idea what cause this problem?

os: xp pro, 512 ram, p4 1.6
 
Do you have a DVD drive, and if yes do you have a dvd in it? I had a very picky dvd rom once that if I had a DVD in the tray and went to my computer, it would scan the entire dvd before allowing me to view the files, taking 5 seconds or so to do it. Frustrating to say the least
