Anecdotal stories are anecdotal, but that video is complete horse shit so here goes. Dad was in Vietnam, tried heroin. Wanted more when he came home but was unable to connect with his friends from the service or find any otherwise. Fought with alcoholism for a while instead. Said he was glad he wasn't streetwise enough to find it before he got married, because the family wouldn't exist if he had.
Close friend who I worked with for about 15 years was diagnosed with a hip disorder, his hips only last about 7-10 years before needing to be replaced. After his first surgery you could tell that he was slipping in his day to day life. After the second replacement he ended up completely hooked on painkillers. Went on disability for a bit, ran out of disability, divorced a while after. Still a messy situation a few years later, unable to support himself or kids.
Video is so one sided and selective in its presentation it is silly. My made up statistic for the day is for every person in a bad situation who fills the emptiness with drugs there is a person who is completely loved, engaged, connected and successful that becomes consumed by addiction because they are an addict.
