The words are smushed and stretched...when it gets to windows xp screen, the stuff goes beyond the edge of the monitor. Ive reinstalled monitor drivers but still nothing "

anyonehave any ideas?

Did you try reinstalling the video drivers as well? Also check the settings of the monitor to see if you need to readjust the width it is displaying to get everything back on the sreen. Hope this helps,

Are you sure you are trying an appropriate resolution/refresh? 1024x768 @ 75hz refresh (or higher) should be a good resolution. Then go ahead and adjust the geometry with the monitor controls.

You may have to install the correct monitor *inf file if the monitors EDID info isn't being read properly by the graphics driver.

monitor is being read by the video card correctly... ran the hp progarm to do the inf..... the monitor buttons wont work.. the video card recognizes the monitor but pressing the horizontal and vertical buttons dont do a thing..the other buttons on the monitor work properly

Could be a busted monitor. My old CRT went to try to change resolution and in the middle got stuck. The entire picture looked like a big hour glass, almost nothing in the middle, pic near the top. Nothing really helped so I just tossed it.
