Ok, specs:

Duron 700 @800 via the pencil trick
256 mb pc133 generic
ATI AIW 32 mb agp card
Asus A7V
Sblaster live Xgamer

quake 3 freezes sometimes in the menu, sometimes 5 seconds into demo 001. Sometimes there is looping sound, sometimes there isn't.

Graphics aperture size was 128 MB, I turned it down to 64.

I had 64 Mb of ram and the processor was at default just yesterday and I could play quake 3 for a good hour before a memory error(crappy ram). I upgraded with a whole new stick of ram (pulled out that 64 Mb piece of pc100) and overclocked the cpu. I've had no problems that are still standing but this.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

try upping the voltage somewhat or reapplying with the pencil. First make shure the system is stable during non-oc conditions.

The bios doesn't have a setting to up the voltage any more... it is gone.. don't ask me where it went.

I set my jumper to jumper free mode so it booted non-overclocked. I still have the same problem.

Next step- clearing the cmos. I'll be back in a few minutes...

Gimme some tips if you got em.

Cleared bios and set jumper to default. Yanked out sblaster card. Now the q3 crash is entirely different.

The demo runs about 20 seconds, the system gets quiet and doesn't make much noise during this process. At the end of the 20 secs, the monitor goes to suspend mode and the system doesn't make any noise.. System doesn't act like anything has crashed but the monitor just goes to suspend.. don't understand what is going on...

Any tips?

Changed the graphics mode from optimal to normal ... now I can't use agp 4x which was sweet.. anyone know a way to get the radeon to work with a A7V under optimal?

Shaft, i had the EXACT same problems with my Radeon 64DDR VIVO. Try installing the Via 4in1 drivers and trying different versions of Radeon drivers.. and is this in Win2k? because all my problems were limited to Win2k.

yeah- I have had that problem with the suspended monitor, too.

I left Quake 3 Arena playing via the net.. came back, the monitor was in suspended mode, and I could do nothing to get it to come back.

Oh, specs: (Anyone else hear problems with Quake III and Duron processors?)
