Does it matter which slot my GPU is? It's actually in the farther slot from my CPU because it takes up a lot of space.

Also, my SSDs are not in RAID. I took one of them out yesterday, so there's only one in there. How do I check what configuration there are in? I've never done anything to my SSD besides plugging it in.

Also, I don't know if this will help at all, but I went into Event Viewer to check for any Chrome related errors and this was what I found:

All of Chrome crashes seem to have the same timestamp

I built this computer myself. I also just checked my bios and found that my ssd is already in ahci mode with integrated data controller enabled. Is this correct?

you can try uninstalling chrome and firefox but i suspect you have some software issue you only have one firewall type program installed..not several..different virus programs running consecutively

Kind of all over the place, aren't we phasseshifter?

Hi nanodice (nice parts, btw), I want to make sure we are clear on the memory placement. According to your manual, 2 sticks of memory should be in slots DDR3_1 and DDR3_2.

Now, I can't answer all the questions phasseshifter raised (if you are considering them), but you can put your video card in either slot.

Do me a favor if you haven't already - run a memtest for each stick in slot DDR3_1 and tell me what errors you are seeing. I am not sure if this is the same slot you were referring to as 1 in your earlier post.

Thank you! As you can probably imagine, I'm getting quite a bit desperate here, haha..

Does it really matter what slot the memory is in? I'm currently running the "good" ram with memtest in slot 2. It's been 1.5 hours without errors. Should I stop it and run in slot 1?

It matters because there are two different channels. Yes, motherboards have become a little more picky than they used to be. Using slots DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 will be your best bet here.

I can't answer about your duration because I don't know what it took to pull up your problems before.

Also remember that once the memory is in the correct slots, there could still be errors in the data on your drive. So, you may need to:

run sfc
reinstall some programs, or just
reinstall Windows

to get rid of files that were damaged with the earlier memory issues.

Thank you. Do you think I should reboot windows with the RAM in slot 1 or 2 and reinstall chrome and the game i previously used to test just to see if it still crashes?

The last time I encountered an error was around the 1.5 hour mark. That was for the other ram stick that's not currently in my computer and testing.

My advice .... I stick, slot 1, see what happens.

I just finished 4 passes with the non-error ram at the 2nd slot. No errors again. I then rebooted, but my Firefox still crashed. Chrome refused to install too until I rebooted and then tried install immediately. Seems like this is the only way it'd work.

1st slot
2nd slot
B encountered 0 errors ; Applications crashing
3rd slot
B encountered 0 errors ; Applications crashing
4th slot
A encountered 5 errors ; Applications crashing
B encountered 0 errors ; Applications crashing

If slots 1 and 2 are working, then that would be good, as that is the recommended configuration. You may want to try a re-install of Firefox (you also may need to create a new profile).

For some reason, I can't edit my posts here anymore.

But here's something else I've tried:
http://i.imgur.com/4lHK2Oi.png Temps with only Chrome open
http://i.imgur.com/1UjdhyK.png Temps with Hawken open. Artifacts start appearing on Google Chrome. CPU temps had never been this high. 10 minutes after game is closed, the temps are still at 68 to 76 C. Could overheating be a problem?
http://i.imgur.com/xtP3DPd.png 10 minutes after closing game. Temperature will not start going down. Restarted the computer but some artifacts still present, then disappeared when temp went down.

I've also placed my "good" RAM on the first slot as suggested. There are still crashes.

I tried reinstalling my video driver. This happen everytime: http://i.imgur.com/IozT5Fc.png

I also reinstalled both Chrome and Firefox. Both are still crashing, although Chrome crashes less now. When my CPU was 65-70+ temp, it hang a lot.

Things I will be trying later/tomorrow:
1) memtest "bad" ram on 3rd slot for 8 passes.
1a) If error, memtest "bad ram on 2nd slot for 8 passes.
2) Fresh install of Windows 8 on separate SSD, then check for crashes

Any other suggestions?

Those temps are pretty high for water and doing nothing more than starting a browser. You might want to check your cooler connections. There are some good youtube videos on installing those. If you need to, take the cooler off, use some new thermal paste, and try again.

I've actually applied new thermal paste yesterday :/

OK. What speed is your CPU getting up to under load? If you don't have it already, CPU-Z is the best way to monitor this in real time:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/cpu_z.html

A good test would be to run OCCT and see how stable you are, and what your temperatures get up to:
http://www.ocbase.com/index.php/download

I would also recommend a program like CPUID hardware monitor. It will show you temps for each core.
