the 2gb of video memory isn't really necessary (and is "wasted") as rabbitz stated
even pushing 1080p modern games are just starting to hit 1 gb, and you'd need a gpu faster than the 6870 desktop to begin being memory limited (that's why we're seeing the 6950 2gb, 560 TI 448 ~1.25gb)

you might want to look at the hp envy 14 as well (the nvidia 525 in the dell is significantly slower than the 540)
the alienware m14x might be what you're looking for too (although it's half a pound heavier to accomodate the higher-end gpu) http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...50055-552179-VHozR1ZBb0JDeHdBQUFNMDFGTUFBQUxo
there's currently a free $100 Alienware GC and the gt 555 1.5gb (don't waste money going with the 3gb it's pointless) is faster than the 540
i don't know if you'll be able to find any other notebook with the build quality of a thinkpad (other than a thinkpad*) though
*macbook pros maybe, but there's no 14" (and the 13.3 uses intel IGP) and there are still some open-gl driver issues for gaming image quality to work out i think
for gaming, the nvidia 540 is pretty similar to the ati 56xx/66xx series
