I was looking at these earlier. do they come in a longer size? I have a large tower case and am looking for something like 18".

After reading posts about how bad these cheap lead cables can be.
I ordered some cheap rounded sata EMI protection cables #3939 from monoprice for 2.57 each.
Next I ran speed tests before and after on 3 drives I tend to avoid cheap flat cables now.

I haven't used the specific cables john3850 mentions (though I'll probably grab some). But it always amazes me (and maybe I've just had good luck) how great many things are from Monoprice. I too bought sata cables from them last year and noticed higher stability with my various arrays. And on two pcs higher benchmark scores.

The SATA connector is plastic though, with no means to ground any shielding. Does that mean they somehow connected the shielding to the ground pin inside the plug? Is there really that much EMI inside a PC, that it would interfere with a short distance digital signal? Or are we talking only long runs, 18"+ is pretty long (for SATA). I only need 6" cable for my PC.

If any of you've got valid test data it would be interesting to see it.

The lenght of the cables I use are 10 and 18 inch through I should have ordered shorter cales.
One of the posts that I read the op stated that he only uses external cables do to the added shielding.
Next I did a quick search to find any cheap shielded internal or external cables which lead me to monopriece.

I have had one SATA cable fail on me before. It wasn't a total failure but it crippled the drive it was connected to. So now I try to use only cables that have come from the (many) motherboards I've bought. No problems so far. Note that there is no difference between properly constructed SATA cables as far as speed, and length shouldn't be an issue for most realistic cases, either (see article).

There's certain things I don't think I'll ever need any more of. IDE, Floppy, sata, and IEC Power cables fall into this category.

Decent deal for SATA cables, but I invested in quite a few (100+) rounded SATA cables of various lengths when svc.com put them on clearance. They were only rated for SATA 1 (one) speeds, but I haven't had any issues with them and SATA2 devices. Haven't really had any SATA6G stuff to try out.

Edit: I MUCH prefer "rounded" SATA to "flat" SATA. So much easier to work with, and I think that the signal integrity is better.
