The Indians gave us syphilis and we gave them smallpox I?d say it was a pretty even trade. Even the Indians came from somewhere else. It was unfortunate that they got in the way of the European expansion into North America but that was the way of the world back then. You can?t change the past you?re better off preparing for the future. 🙂

Reminds me of my sister's high school debate team, which consisted of eight Jews, one Protestant, and one Catholic. The kids had to come up with a name for the team, and they voted (unanimously) on "Oys & Goys." Needless to say, the school put the kibosh on this, but at least the students had tried to inject a little humor into the "diversity" issue.

Who said it was their homeland? Some Indians massacred thousands and thousands other Indians and took over each their land. Was that ok because it was Indian vs. Indian?

Back then, the strongest survived. Then the Europeans come over. They had guns and armor. They/we took over. Just seems like more of the same to me. The strongest, smartest, most advanced survived and thrived.

Seems kind of sad, but that's the way it was back then.

Anyway, what's with the defensiveness expressed in this thread? This isn't some kind of revenge for whites having taken over native lands. It's only a commentary on schools and professional teams who use native american names and symbolism. I think it's damned funny. I only wish they would have called the team "the fightin' whities. 😉
 
I don't consider "White" my heritage and I don't consider myself a member of the White Community. They can call themselves the White CocksSckers as far as I'm concerned and it shouldn't bother anybody but Tex and his butt brothers because the term White is to ambigious when adressing the Caucasian Population of the US. I mean we are ancestors of Micks, Krauts, Limey's, Dago's, Jews, Spics. Ports, Frogs, VanQueers, Flem, Ruskies, Nordes, Goat Lovers, Men in Skirts etc. You have to be more specific when you want to insult us🙂 In fact, we are greatly insulted when the Knuckle Draggers who rant about white pride associate themselves with us (I honestly believe that they descended from Neanderthals instead of Cro-Magnon like the rest of us).

I think it always was just "whites" - that may have been a typo. Kinda boring if you ask me. "Fightin Honkies" would have been A LOT better. Their original idea, "Fightin' Devil Land Stealing Crackers" was rejected due to pressure from area cracker manufacturers.

Honestly, I don't see why an intramural basketball team is getting so much press. An intramural team, hell half the intramural team names were crude back when I was playing, who the hell cares....

Hey if you really want to look at it from a historical viewpoint, many of our ancestors have been victimized by the white man too. We are as much their victims as any other group. There is only one verifiable attempt to intentionlly infect indians with smallpox during war by sending blankets used by smallpox victims to an indian community. By all accounts, it failed.

Please, it was not hard spreading smallpox unintentionally, and we hardly had enough knowledge of disease to have the ability to do it intentionally with any signifigant result.
