There are probably long research papers on all professions discussing such things as what motivates people, backgrounds, road blocks for minorities and women, glass ceilings, etc etc.

I am curious to know has research of this kind ever been done on the pornographic film actors and actresses, and the pornographic industry in general?

And for the jokers, this is not a joke, but a very serious topic because I used the word pornographic instead of the slang "porno".

I know that I for one faced extreme discrimination and institutionalized barriers to entry on my path to stardom in lesbian porn, simply because I have a penis.

There are novels and research papers for sure. They interviewed professors who teach classes on it (or at least discuss it in detail) during a Penn & Teller episode.

I am curious to know how they acquite their skills. There is no way people actually do some of that in real life. So are these skills acquired on set?

Also, how do the performers get over some of the nasty things?

OK, so you aren't talking about any sort of intellectual research then... I don't know the answer to that one. I thought you meant cultural or economic research.

I am. What is the background of most of these performers? What motivates them to join? What sets them apart from others that they can join? Do they work on the side? What do performers whose career doesn't work out do? Are they accepted back into society? Do they face employment discrimination later on?

There are all relevant questions.

HBO had a series about that called "pornucopia: going down in the valley" that is pretty much what youre asking about. it was a documentary on the industry itself, how much men get paid vs women, all kinds of different facts. pretty interesting, actually.

Read the review on IMDB. From one review:

Did you know that the female stars control who they will and will not, um, boink? Bet you didn't. Women veritably run the show.

Maybe big names like Jenna Jameson. Would a director really care what some starlet on the set of 8th street or bangbus is complaining about?
