That is because it is the the feeling of good and evil is created from the love or hatred of being one has within. We project everything. It is love that creates a loving God and hatred that creates a God of retribution. A vindictive God is the creation of those who don't really believe they are forgiven. The hatred of self is the source of evil.

Of course we all have hatred of ourselves to some degree. I have plenty. On the other hand I don't vote for people that try to encapsulate my hatred into laws that oppress others. So yes, there is now a line between good and bad. It all depends how much you let that self-hate extend into how you run and who you choose to run things in real life. Conservatives are shitty people.

That is true from the perspective that the more a person denies the negatives within, the greater will be their need to project them outwardly. It is this mirroring of the hatred we have within us expressed outwardly to others that creates the appearance of ugliness. But appearance, then, is also just an expression of degree. You are looking at the ugliness and not seeing the how sad it is that they live their lives in a greater state of inner misery. To focus on their ugliness is to miss their pitifullness.
