Definitely true. A five hundred pound man would beat a 100 lb man in a 1/4 mile race by at least 400ms.Originally posted by: NeoPTLD
This is according to a dude that lives two doors down in the dorms. Even though this is non-sense in physics perspective I don't know how much sense it makes among racers.
Is this a somewhat meaningful statement or pure BS?

Well, since acceleration=force/mass*weight+volume-area, yes, it is true.

When someone blanketly say "for every 100lbs of added weight, you add 100mS to your quarter mile time" does not account for vehicle mass among other things.

so if I toss the dead chick out of my trunk i'll save .04 seconds? (I tried to starve her to death, but she wouldn't die so, i slapped her to death. it took a while)
That is correct. We are removing, or adding as the case may be, weight. This not as dramatic as increasing HP.Originally posted by: WinkOsmosis
That's ridiculous. It would mean that 1000lbs only adds 1 second, in every car. It depends on the weight of the car to begin with.
