Everthing seems fine, but I get a short beep at startup on new build w/ Asus Z77 Pro

I just built a new system with an Asus Z77 Pro motherboard. Everything seems to be working well, but at start up, each time, I hear a short beep then the Asus splash screen briefly shows, then I go into Windows.

I see no errors coinciding with the beep and I have BIOS set to halt on errors until I push F1, so it seems there are no errors causing the beep because I am not prompted to hit F1 to continue.

The manual states one short beep means: VGA detected, Quick boot set to disable, and No keyboard detected. I am not sure what VGA detected would be. I find no BIOS option to enable Quick boot and my keyboard is working because I can enter BIOS hitting the delete key.

Does this single short beep mean anything or does it simply beep at start-up and it means nothing?

single short beep has almost always meant everything is working ok.

It means you need to send me your new computer stat. The short beep means that the atoms in your CPU are beginning to decay. Its only a matter of time before they split and then your whole computer goes nuclear. Happens from time to time.

I can dispose of it safely for you.

I was wondering because I had never heard a beep on my past computers and I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with any components while teh easy RMA window is still up. I am not sure if a speaker was hooked to their motherboards. On this one, I found the little speaker in my case components and hooked it up for this one.

So a single short beep with no error code means no problem? There would be errors listed if there were?

If so, I wish the motherboard manual would state that instead of listing things that a single beep could mean.

Lots of computers don't have the standard "PC speaker" anymore, so that's probably why you never heard the beep before. Since you hooked the speaker up, you will indeed hear one short beep for "everything's a-ok".

Thanks. Asus support (I had another question) confirmed - she said what I hear is a long beep for okay (sounds quick and short to me though - she agreed and was not sure why it is called a long beep.)
