EverQuest On Win2k???

I am trying to decide whether to go with Win2k or Win98se. My new comp will most likely be 1ghz@1.2ghz T-bird, GF2 Pro, 40GB IBM 60GXP HD, 512mb PC2100 DDRAM (maybe only 256mb, not sure yet). I would like to run Win2k. The system will be almost completely for games, with some Word, Dreamweaver, browsing, etc. thrown in like most gamers do. I know CS works, but how about EQ? These are the only currently released games I plan on playing. Also, will mostly all future games have win2k support? thanks.

Yep, my brother plays EQ on my system close to 10 hours a day now that it's summer without problems.

this is a good question, but i don't think it has a definite answer. i have dual boot 98/2k on my machine at home. i use 2k all day at work. i would have switched to 2k only at home, cept that EQ won't play on it. i get flashes of the desktop trying to come through the game screen every three seconds or so. i have a GF2MX with the latest nvidia drivers. i don't think anything else in my setup should affect this too much. i also get the problem where my refresh rate stays at 60 hz when a game is launched. i've read about that one only a little bit. and i haven't had much time to work on remedying either of these, so i just continue to use 98 to play games in.

and then there's my friend. he plays eq in 2k no problems. he's got a GF1 with i don't know which drivers. he gets no flashing problems, nor does he get the 60 hz refresh problem. i have plans to build a new computer soon, and when i do it will be quite similar to the one you say you're building. i'll try win2k only on it from the first, and if i can't get it to work that way i'll have to go back to using 98, but i'm going to try 2k alone first.

I get that same problem with My GeForce 2gts 32 ddr Card and Win 2k

Not sure what it is, but seems to only happen in EQ when I am not in full screen mode, though I do get screen flashes in full screen mode.

But other than that annoyance.. EQ runs great on win2k.

Me and my best friend both run EQ fine under Win2k.
But we are both using Voodoos..(him a 3, me a 3, and a later a 5) and I think EQ runs a little better in Glide than D3D.

Well, right now I have win98 and I'm using a Voodoo3 2k with what are I believe the latest drivers. In full screen mode I'm fine, but when I go to partial screen mode with the gray borders I get flashing all over. It doesn't bother me tho, I just use that for trading and switching settings. Ive never checked into it. I have copies of win98fe, win98se, win2k, winme, and even win95, but I'd much rather use all win2k. I think I'll just try it out and I can always load win98se if it doesn't work.
