I was hardcore EQ1 but what killed it for me was always looking for a healer. I spent too much wasted time looking for a healer to do any group runs. I'm not ever going to put myself through that crap again. As a wizard I could quad kill in a few places but that got old as wizard and druids were always fighting for the few spots that you could quad kill.

I did EQ for 5 years and right around PoP and the next expansion, forget what the name, killed it for me because you needed a pretty buff out tank to even get through the dungeons. My guild was not super hardcore and we never made it past plains of fire so only our main tank and off tank had enough gear to get through so everyone was fighting for them to get in there group.

Then I got in bata for wow had much more fun because I could solo.

Heh quading raptors in Timorous was how I finally finished the long climb to level 60 with my wizard. Once you got the cycle going you could really grind non stop doing that with the only downtime being the med time for mana between quads.

someone recently edited the wikipedia page on this to say PS3 is one of the platforms...

Hope that's not true, could spell doom.

I'll call BS on that- why release a new game on an outdated platform. When Eq2 was released, there were no pc's even able to play it at max settings so assuming they do the same with Eq Next, it's doubtful the Ps3 would even meet the minimum requirements.

As far as that goes, for me personally, graphics hit the "no need to exceed" point within the last few years. I just want to see therefore a carbon copy of EQ1 with graphics that are updated compared to EQ 1999, but they don't need to be 2012 cutting edge that will require GTX 580 SLI to run well.

Carbon copy doesn't mean the same zones and the NPCs all say the same things and classes are exactly the same, rather, it means that the game's complexity and difficulty are mostly the same. That means that if a max tradeskill is 300, once you get past 100 skillups don't happen every combine. That means you MUST group at higher levels or be forced to solo easier mobs for a much slower experience gain. right down to the need to type to interact with NPCs.

Don't want another casualized WoW clone.

Not concerned we really know nothing about it. PS3 does support keyboard/mouse or maybe it will be like BF3 console version is condensed PC with fewer goodies.

EQ next will not be EQ1 in anything but name. The thing that made EQ great was Verant before Sony got involved. Sony made EQ1 become something that lead to its downfall.

My favorite thing was watching people get slaughtered by the guards outside freeport when they went to type a text message and forgot to press enter first.

It is what it will be. EQ was hardcore and games like that don't make it with the new players. EQ came about around the time when role players were playing Ultima Online and looking for something new. UO was a painful experience at times and the players wanted a similar experience but in 3d. EQ provided that but as time went on caved more and more to making the game easier , to the point it started to lose what made it great. That trend continues with online games. Make a game now without maps telling you where everything is, how to find the next quest, require someone to do anything but wait 30 seconds to get back in the game or take longer than an hour to level and the complaining starts.
