Everquest, Hercules TNT1, and Win2K

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend. He has a first generation TnT card (Hercules). It seems that any direct 3d game he plays it hard locks the system. We do have the latest drivers from Nvidia installed (6.1.8 I believe). I read somewhere that the best drivers for the first generation TnT's were 2.08, but they aren't available for Win2K. I also know that this is not a Win2K issue because it was doing the same thing in Win98SE. He has the card on its own IRQ (11) and the aperature size in the BIOS is set to half his RAM (128 aperature size, 256mb system RAM), but we've tried all the settings. This is really annoying because he is able to play Everquest for only about 10 minutes before it locks up. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
